90's Band Reunions

So lame. I was into it back in '06 when AIC did it, but now it's out of control. Any band out of the 90's that broke up feels like they have the power to take the music back or whatever their mission is (it's impossible that they're doing it for money! They're artists for fuck's sake!). We've got: AIC, Blind Melon, Rage, STP, Pumpkins, Blink 182, New Kids on the Block (you can argue they were more 80's), and now Limp Bizkit. I'm sure that is a very incomplete list. It's like they feel only they have the power to save music. Music is fine, go away, your welcome is worn. The music's not the same. Just stop being lame and tarnishing your reputation (if you even had one).

The 00's are going to be remembered for all these washed up 90's bands trying to be relevant again.

I don't care about the Bizkit but there's a bunch of bands I'd love to see reunite! Regardless if they're doing it for the money or not.

I was a kid in the 90's so I missed out on some really awesome bands that I wish to see them live so I would LOVE to see a reunion of Faith No More, Soul Coughing, Soundgarden, and a bunch of others. But mainly those three!

yeah, I thought about that earlier. Seems to be a reunion time for some bands. I don't mind it really. I mean most of these bands side projects or other bands failed (IE: Army of Anyone, +44, Angels and air waves, ect). If people are fans of these bands that have already confirmed reunions- it's good for them. They get to see one of their fave bands again and who knows maybe introduce some of their friends- pure speculation on that statement- as I am not a Bizkit fan or Blink 182 fan by any means. Saw Blink live in 2000 after a friend begged me to go cause he hated going to shows alone: One of the WORST shows I have ever seen. We met Mark Hoppus before the show, but I didn't give a damn as I'm not a blink fan.
Bottom line is most of the other projects band members were involved with went sour- so might as well give the fans of the bands what they want. It's not just 2009 though, I mean the Pumpkins reunited, Toadies did, so over the last few years I can see why this has happened. Of course the bands are filthy rich and don't need anymore money, but they do it cause they get bored. Musicians are lucky to just have such a globalized network when doing it professionally. They work when they want.
On a side note to the poster above- saw Soul coughing at a festival in 1999 (collective soul, better than ezra, eve 6- and a slew of other bands. Soul Coughing was great.

Dinosaur JR got back together and i'm sure part of the reason was money, but Lou and J have both been making good music on their own since the break up.

When they got back together and put out a new album it was pretty damn good. I really enjoy it and still listen to it.

So some of them sound a bit tired but some of them are good too with Dinosaur Jr being the best example i can think of.

have to agree that their latest album is a stellar effort. I love that one. Smashing Pumpkins on the other hand have been shit since Corgan got back to together with pretty much a whole new band and seriously who wants to see STP's anymore anyway?

Mike Doughty's solo isn't that great. And I think the FNM thing was just a rumor. :(

  • More '90's Northwest bands than you can shake a stick at:

Murder City Devils (short tour and that's it)
    Seaweed (a few shows)
    Sweetwater (new album)
    Swallow (new album)
The Fluid (playing tonight in Seattle)
Green River ( a few shows)
    Hater (One show)

I know there is more that I'm forgetting.

    I am personally loving it!

Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.... (Voltaire)
  • Still waiting for a Screaming Tree's reunion....make it happen Lanegan.
  • I'm not bothered about crap like Limp Bizwank but damn, if Faith No More reunited, i'd wee!

I've seen the reunited AIC (ideally i'd have like to have seen the 06/03/06 VH1 Decades Rock Live gig when they played "Would?" with Phil Anselmo on vocals... *dreams*) but other 90's reunions i'd like to see include...

WHITE ZOMBIE (I'd give my left anything to see them... i'm still extremely bitter about SEVERAL of my friends seeing them, saying how fuckin' good they were and rubbing salt in the gaping wound :()
    Skunk Anansie
    Bush
    Temple of the Dog
    Mr. Bungle

    Sepultura (with Max on vocals)
    Rage Against the Machine
    Life of Agony
    Paw
    Live
(I know they haven't disbanded but i'm talking about back when they were good)
    Acid Bath
    Nailbomb
    Pride and Glory
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • Only Living Witness and Hum both got back together for some gigs. so did Will Haven. oh, Snapcase got back together for something like 1 show.

really wish Hum would get together again for good. IMO the most under-rated 90's band and i never heard of them until they were already broken up.

Thats what im talking about. A Screaming Trees reunion would be awesome.....

Their album with the zebra on it, Astronaut or something, could've been a much better album. The production isn't that great. A lot of the songs could've stood out. Plus the singer sounds bored!

blink-182 are hardly doing it for the money, there doing it cause they put the bs that made them break up in the first place behind them. i know theres not to many blink fans on here if any but i for one am pumped there reuniting and making music with each other again

Blink 182 were a great joke band, but a poor man's Green Day tbh.

STP was great live. I'm not sure how good their new album will be, but the Deleos are class musicians.

I like a handful of Blink 182 songs. It's just trendy to regroup these days and it's annoying me. I think these bands should get over themselves and do new projects. What band has reformed and created an album on the same level as when in their prime?

I would say the Black Crowes. Prolly not as good as their primiest prime, but Warpaint fits right in with the rest, imo.

and in the case of blink they did do that and made shit music and so they put the bs behind and got back together.
