Saw Brad Paisley last night with Dierks Bently and Darius Rucker from Hootie (now sings country).

It actually wasn't too bad. Darius still sounds fucking great, did sing one Hootie song (Let her cry)

Dierks was OK a little gung ho- likes trying to pump the crowd up ala a High School football fist pump

Brad Paisley...well he can play guitar pretty well, he sounded good live, and puts on a good show.

Am I going back anytime soon....HELL NO, but it was tolerable and it made my girl happy. She sucked it up for My Morning Jacket in Chicago in exchange.

I don't think country music is really even country any more it really is just pop singing with some twangy guitars, and to be honest Paisley plays 80's hair metal ballad type stuff in there.

So If bored and the show is free or with a sig other I'd say go for it, there were parts I actually enjoyed. Has a song called Alcohol the crowd went nuts for, pretty cool.

On a side note- all the country bumpkins say BP is a great amazing guitarist, all I cold think about while he played was, man, Sir Michael is sooooo much better!!!! I can't wait to take her to PJ for the first time and have Mike melt her face off with a behind the neck guitar rampage.

Actually Brad Paisley could play circles and circles around Mike and just about any other rock guitarist you can think of.

if that is the case he did not show it last night- That being said though I have not heard enough of his studio work or seen him enough live to make a final judgment. He was good in a country way, but there is so much other noise interfering with it it was hard to determine what he was playing and what the other guitarist was.

do you know of some work so I can compare?

I haven't listened to enough of his stuff to know particular names, and I can't even find a suitable youtube vid, so that makes me believe that he keeps it pretty tame for his tours. BUT, I have seen visual evidence, so I know it exists. Paisley is a very respected(by respectable guitarists(Johnny Hiland, Junior Brown, John5) guitar player, and the style he plays in is one of the hardest, so judging just by that, I feel confident making my statement.

I do prefer Mike. I'm not even a big fan of country, but there are some wicked hot guitar players.

thanks, I'll have to painfully listen more ;-(

He did put on a good show. A little girly pop with all the video backgrounds and stuff on stage, but he sounded good. He had a lot of nice guitar duets and duels with his band mate

I LOVE Brad Paisley!!! Not ashamed to admit it! ;) I saw him in September 2007, and he put on one hell of a show. He is an awesome guitarist, and clearly loves to play... Every album I've listened to has a couple of instrumental songs, and then a couple of songs that have some jokey lyrics and are mostly instrumental.

Clearly I'm a fan, but I love his mix of earnest emotional songs, funny songs, and instrumentals. :) Did you know that he also does all the animation behind him during his live shows? Very cool, talented guy. ;)

Probably my favourite Paisley jam is Throttleneck: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=vtNC_mYvAHc

He really is a great guitar player. Could he play circles around Mike? I've never seen him do anything that could match Mike but he's damn good.

He reminds me a bit of John Mayer... Great guitar player who makes it big with cheesy music.

But the best thing about country shows are all of the hot chicks there :)

Funny you should mention John Mayer.... A number of years ago, they performed together on CMT Crossroads (where they take two completely different artistsand have them play their songs). :)

I actually love country music... I find it generally a lot more refreshing than most rock music these days. And when it's cheesy, it knows it is. I love cheese, as long as it's not unintentional. That said, Brad might have some cheesiness, but he also has a lot of genuine emotion...

What Mike does as a guitar player is really basic stuff. Rock and roll guitar is about as easy as it gets and most PJ is in the simpler 25% as far as difficulty goes.

Country music is one of the harder styles to learn, that's why alot of those shred guys, in addition to playing rock, have learned tons of country licks.

I'm not taking personal preference or anything like that into consideration. If Mike and Paisley were to square off, from a purely technical standpoint, Paisley wins hands down. No question.

country music has gone straight to the rednecks over the past 20 years. I'd rather listen to a bunch of rappers and all their mothafucka nigga fuck dis fuck dat than to listen to songs that seem to only talk about beer, honkey tonks, boots, and county fairs. I'm from Nashville and I work on a river show boat and I have to put up with my daily fill of it. it ain't no way to live! at least country music from 30+ years ago is respectable. anyway I could go on all day about what's wrong with country music and why it should've died long ago. all it is now is music for rednecks. anyway about Brad Paisley, he is one hell of a guitar player. Peter Frampton did a short gig where I work not too long ago and I was running the spotlight for the show, and Brad came out to jam with him on Do You Feel Like We Do. I was very impressed. maybe I'll post some videos soon.

Check out the song Throttleneck. It's ridiculous. As far as sheer guitar playing, he does things in that song that I don't think Mike could do. Conversely, I think it demonstrates he can cover about anything Mike can do.

I'm not trashin Mike's playin, Paisley is just that good

OK, Dewie, since you have a man crush on Paisley  .........

Who's better in the country genre, Paisley or Keith Urban? Even close? Those are the two country dudes I hear about when it comes to actual guitar talent.
