What things do you like/hate about LA?

I've been working in Film/TV production for the past 6 years now in a really really small pretty terrible (for abundance in jobs anyway) market. When my lease is up I want to move to at least give this one more shot.
NYC or LA? Anyone in a similar position?

Also, I love the fact that you can go hiking in the "mountains" (Topanga Park) and not have to drive 3-4 hours to get there. Plus, you get a nice view of the city from the top of the hills.
The main downfall is the traffic though. Takes forever to get _anywhere_ which is a pain in the butt. At least in NYC it's pretty easy to get a cab or take the subway. I'm more of an LA guy myself though, so give me the warm weather, the beach, palm trees, and lots of great outdoor music venues.
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

HATE: EVERYTHING
I'm sorry, I just hate that damn city!
But should you ever decide to visit us... make sure you spend all of your tourist dollars and most importantly... use that return ticket.
Hail, Hail!!!
um you know there is a actors strike looming....right now production is a bit slow....what is your craft?
as for living in la....yep there is a lot of traffic, too many people etc....but come december i don't have to shovel my driveway....instead i go to the beach....yeah la really sucks
And we DO have seasons out here... Football, Baseball, Basketball and Hockey seasons.
...
Not to mention.. every band in the world eventually comes through L.A.
Hail, Hail!!!

p.p.s. wtf?
Honestly, what I love about it: weather, things to do, restaurants, the Lakers, the Dodgers, the fact that people are laid back, the ocean, the fact that you can go snowboarding and wakeboarding on the same day.
What I hate: The traffic, and the lack of good public transportation. Those go hand in hand.
Associate Producer/Production Coordinator/PA....
Even with an actor's strike looming, I think there would still be tons more work there with nonunion work than there is in Philly any day.
But, L.A. has so much to offer.....every band plays here, we have franchises for MOST of the major sports (USC and UCLA football more then make up for the lack of NFL team), and, if you are looking to crack into the entertainment biz, this is surely the place to do it.
I have a view of the Pacific Ocean from my window, and from the other side of my office, I can see the mountains.
As I get older, I like the laid-back manner here.
It ain't such a bad place to be!
Most people don't look you in the eye when you talk to them, and the people who are native to Southern California are aggravating. Much higher quotient of morons than anywhere else (although they are extremely attractive morons.)
My job takes me to LA a lot. If someone gave me a free apartment there, I wouldn't turn it down.
LIke:
The Getty Center
Aquarium of the Pacific
Tommy's
In-n-out
Amoeba records
the walk of fame!!
The concerts that come through like Cosmo said
Dirty Frank Shows!!! Ha!
(i don't actually live in L.A. though!)
Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
tho, as mentioned, the traffic SUCKS;)
Unfortunately I have to go there all the time for work.
Nothing against anyone who lives or wants to live there, but whenever I am there I just cannot stand it.
But hey, that's just me...
YES!
by the way - you should try NYC, as I don't need to fight you in traffic...
they don't call it the big apple for nuthin!!!
give it a go!!
*looks around furtively...okay let's try to keep it down people they are noticing and movin' back in again!!*
partly why it seems everyone dies around 70 in that place...

sigh. okay first off - big city, so sorry we don't hold your hand Uncle Billy Bob...
also in the Mexifornian culture it is kinda unsaid but it's considered rude to stare into people's eyes...didn't anyone ever tell you "don't make eye contact" when you are passing by someone on the street? hahahahaa
also, the Autonomy of Los Angeles is one of it's best features...when it comes to the people.
now - seriously - why do you find Southern California NATIVES "annoying" ?? is it because we don't like being crowded and having our "image" stereotyped and regurgitated back at us through your filtered and tired expectations? Is it because we can TOTALLY tell when you have NO idea what you're doing on your board? Is it because we can all pronounce our Spanish names with gusto? Or is it because each and every one of us wakes up and says a special prayer of thanksgiving for just being HERE??
I won't even comment on the "moron" line...I think I am going to go outside and sit in the sand...errr, my backyard.
Everyone in Los Angeles is from someplace else... from my experience, there are an awful lot of people from Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin out here. Everyone comes from some other state and bitches and complains about, "But there's no seasons here"... or how GREAT <insert state name here> is... yet, THEY STAY HERE!!!
My guess is Riff runs into foriegners living in Los Angeles... transplants from points East of here... and thinks that because they are here, they must be from here.
Los Angeles would be a great fucking place... if people who live someplace else and bitch and moan about being here would just pack their fucking shit and move BACK to East Bumfucking Someplace Else.
Hail, Hail!!!
Halle-fuckin'-lujah!!!
greatest bumper sticker ever
"Welcome to California. Now Go Home."
The major highway traffic/congestion makes me never want to drive around there again.
Celebration, the ball's in play
Really, the smog alone is enough for me to never want to live there.
Sir Mike McCready is....THE MASTER!!! WAHHH!!!

It takes balls to put out a UKE album!
This is so true. This is the thing with LA... People complain about the Hollywood douche bags. OK, I live in Hollywood, and yes, there are a lot of Hollywood douche bags. But believe me... pretty much everyone trying to make it in the industry, making up the douche bag population, is from out of state. If you see a guy in a tight white t-shirt with aviator sunglasses and a fauxhawk, driving a convertible VW GTI and spending 65% of his waiter's incopme on an apartment in the Hills, the guy is NOT FROM LA. He's from Michigan or Arizona or New Jersey, trying to land a role in a sitcom.
I grew up in Ventura County and can tell the "natives" from the transplants in a heartbeat. I'll join anyone here in complaining about the LA douche bags. But they're not from here.
weather
beach
close to pretty much any activity you want to do
HATE:
Lakers
traffic
general attitude
cost of living (although NYC is right there too)
Those morons are not "native to Southern California." Very few people in the "industry" are actual natives. This is the place to come from somewhere else to make it in the industry. The people who do have an attraction to the "scene" and want to be a douche bag themselves, so they do and here they are.
Haha! Let me guess. Clippers fan? Usually goes hand in hand with the Angels. Or do you like the Celtics or some out of state team?
