Anyone ever get bit by a spider?

So I woke up in the middle of the night and my right index finger was pulsing with a lot of pressure and was swelling up. The swelling has come down a little, but it's still red. So I think I was bitten by a spider, or something... I just don't know what else could've made my finger to start swelling up. Has anyone here ever been bit by a spider, and if so is this common in what happens? I'm a little freaked, but I hope this is the worst it gets.

Funny thing is right before it happened in my dream I was holding a spider. I don't know if the sensation of the swelling brought this apparition in my dream or not, but it was definitely weird.

And no, I haven't had any symptoms such as "spidey sense", or the ability to climb walls, nor super-human strength.

I was bitten by one a couple of years ago. Just happened to scratch my back and felt a huge knot...it was swollen up maybe the size of a quarter but it was bright red and did not look good at all. I think your symptoms would be common with most any spider, but what is to follow would depend on what kind of spider it was. A brown recluse bite will eventually cause your muscle tissue to rot and can be a huge ordeal. I went to the doctor when I discovered my bite and he gave me some kind of ointment, which was basically a steroid, and it cleared up in a matter of day. Nothing to really worry about, but I would go to the doctor if I were you

Yeah, the thing is I can barely see where it bit me. Thing is my health insurance at my job doesnt kick in for another 2 months. Ya think I should just see if the swelling gets worse and if so then go to the doctors? What really sucks is I don't know where this fucker is hiding and I need to sleep in this fucking room!

A buddy of mine was bitten by a brown recluse and was delayed getting to a doctor. Two fingers turned brown (looked like frostbite) and he nearly lost a finger. Maybe you ought to let a doctor look at it. :p

Spiders often bite in a line, one bite after the other, each bite about 1/2 inch apart. This happened to my friend on the back of his shoulder when we were young. It snuck into his hockey gear which he left drying in the garage.

Alright, well he went till two fingers turned brown...Alright, so what you're saying is I've got some time. I'll wait till one turns brown then get concerned.

Thing is my finger looks normal for the most part. It's only around the second joint it looks reddish and is swollen.

I've been bitten by a few spiders. It totally depends on the kind. A black widow bite will hurt like hell and make you feel nauseous. Most spider bites merely itch though.

A brown recluse bite will mess you up.

  • i was bitten a month or so ago while i was outside helping my mom weed her garden. i went to a pharmacy and they recommended a cortisone cream that was only a couple bucks. you could try that but your bite sounds more severe than mine

    Buy a cat.

We don't have any insect issues in our house!

Like I said, that might be all you ever have or you could end up like the other guy's buddy whose fingers turned brown. A woman in my neighborhood was bitten by a recluse on her leg years ago, didn't have anything done about it and ended up with a festering rotten hole in the thigh. She had to have skin grafts and all that shit. I would't wait if I were you....but maybe you do have a few days to play around with

this reminds me of a story that was told to me by a mexican friend while working on a dig in baja. His friend/relative was bit in the balls by a beuta negra while taking a dump in his outhouse, sadly he did not make it to the doctors because of the remoteness of his community.

My sister is extremely allergic to most spider bites (hell, most insect bites in general), so she has to carry a tube of epinephrine (Epi-pen) to inject herself with if she gets bitten. For those of you unfamiliar with it, it's basically a giant needle loaded with epinephrine (adrenaline) that you inject into the bite site to stop anaphylactic shock. So needless to say, if you get bitten, you should see a doctor. If you don't, keep the bite area elevated, and periodically put an ice-pack on it. I would also recommend some cortisone treatment. Cheers!

Wanna see some sick stuff? Look up spider bites on YouTube. Some pretty nasty looking stuff from the Brown Recluse in particular.
