It's hard to pick just one, but I guess I'd have to say "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin. I know there aren't any words, but that song is just so catchy.

thats definately later than the 1890s. id say more like 1910s or 20s
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

I'll be honest i don't know much from that period.

I guess my musical taste pick up more in the late 20's and 30's with jazz/ big band type stuff. I am a woody guthrie fan too, but i'm just not familar with songs from that era.

I'd have to go with: Kiss Me, Honey, Do—S. H. Dudley (1899)
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

  • Definitely "I've been working on the railroad" from 1894. I've been rocking out to that a lot lately.

    Awesome thread. :D

According to Wikipedia, "Keep on the Sunny Side" was written in 1899. The Carter Family popularized it in the 1920's and it was featured in O Brother, Where Art Thou? by The Whites. Gotta love a good church hymn.
