Hey all,

So I picked up my Mbox from long and Mcquade on monday. I have yet to open it. I have a new processor (XP 3000+) a fanless CPU coller (0db) and a very quiet power supply (21db) in the mail. I am gonna wait till I have everything to bother to start learning the Mbox stuff. I am gonna format and reinstall windows and update, get all the necessary patches and start fresh only using my computer for 2 things, Madden and recording. Well I guess I'll write soem papers too :)

But I am very excited. Didn't get the factory bundle. It may sound bad but I am hoping to be able to pirate most plugins I need. I am a university student, no way I am paying 500$ for a friggin reverb plugin. When I have a full time job and am outa school I will buy software and support the industry. Until then I'll use the 10 finger discount.

But thanks EX and all those who helped me in figuring out which recording device to buy.

most of the extra plugins, if not all, required a USB key (an actual piece of hardware) in order to work. you won't be able to pirate anything.

    they're smarter than that.
  • Arghhhhhh,

To bad. Well I will get by with what my budget allows me. Although I am very skeptical that someone hasn't figured out a way to get around it. I am nearly sure someone has. But I am only willing to go so far to find free software. Maya has the same type of hardware security, and I am sure it ahs been cracked. I'm sure the only issue is a readily available USB key to inspect. Cause if they are gonna make a virtual piece of hardware they need that first.

I doubt I am gonna be crying for 500$ plugins any time soon anyway, my setup already exceeds my skill :)

  • New update: Mbox has turned into a money pit.

Bought Mbox, computer is too loud to record. Have to buy a new PSU and CPU cooler, new processor to get good Mbox performance as well. Then I find out my current case isn't big enough to house my new CPU cooler. So now a new case is required :) - atleast it will be a special sound dampening case.

That's why I started from scratch. I have a phenomenal computer now, runs ProTools like a dream. You'll get it eventually...

Like Ex said, the Factory Bundle uses a USB key to unlock the extra plugins, but that doesn't mean there aren't pirate plugins out there that don't need a hardware key. Use what they have, figure out what else you need, and start looking in the usual places. You'll probably find something eventually.

Me, however... I run my setup commercially, so I'm paying for everything I've got. Thank Allah for credit cards.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

    cough bittorrent cough
  • I hear yah killer is me, thats gonna be my first place I look.

Yah I hope to find something cool. But right now I just wanna start recording. Like frig, case comes tommorow, 1 day to build and tweak the new parts into case, 1 day to learn the basics of protools and Mbox, then I'm off to song writing heaven...
