MedozKMedozK Posts: 9,209
We have now narrowed the field down to 4 great American bands. From these we will decide who the GREATEST AMERICAN BAND is.

 - PLOT TWIST -
From this point forward only ONE band will be eliminated each round. So use your vote wisely.

You are going to pick the band that you think is the "Weakest Link" after 2 days I remove the band (1) with the most votes. We will then move on to Round 4.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
R.E.M.
Soundgarden
Alice in Chains - Eliminated Round 2
Metallica
Guns N' Roses - Eliminated Round 1
The Ramones - Eliminated Round 2
Talking Heads - Eliminated Round 1

Tough one. 3 of these bands I listen to their whole catalog and one of them I mainly listen to Lightning and Puppets, not that they didn't make other great albums. So there it is.

Of these remaining bands, it has to be Petty. There are 2 bands you can put on at a gathering that everyone in attendance will appreciate, no matter their age, race, or favorite style of music. Not saying that these are people's favorites, but that no one will complain about what is playing.

Those two artists are Tom Petty and John Mellencamp.

this is a strange group, but i guess we have to realize where we are voting and who is voting.

Some random questions that pop into my mind here:
Where is the Jimi Hendrix Experience in all these polls?
How is it that Soundgarden is in the running for greatest American band here and Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Replacements and Husker Du are nowhere in sight?
Was Pearl Jam ever a consideration?

Wow the Seattle bias is strong in this round. REM and Metallica both losing to Soundgarden?  Come on.

Like it or not, the people have spoken...I would be happy for any of these 4 bands to win.

I don't consider The Jimi Hendrix Experience American, I guess because of the other members and where they originated.
In regards to Soundgarden... in the original poll they just came to my mind before the others you listed.
Pearl Jam was never in the running, thought that would be a huge bias in the poll.

maybe the winner of all of these competitions (american, british, etc) go up against PJ in a final round. There are many people here who love PJ but they aren't their favourite. it might be interesting.

For a second there, I thought you meant like Janis Joplin. Grace Slick, Go Go's, The Bangles, Pretenders, Juliana Hatfield, etc.
A women's rock band/ female band leader poll would be cool!

Yes, that would be cool Brian. Just wondering why we lost some voters/voices that we had in the earlier rounds.

Maybe due to lack of what they thought were viable remaining choices for best American band?

Maybe that's why we love grunge so much, the British let us keep that genre to ourselves.

Soundgarden is not grunge though...  Mudhoney was grunge.
