Who You Are in Chicago for our Fallen Friend Tanvir

Hi guys, 

I don't make many requests and most of the time I like to be funny vs. serious, but earlier this year many of us in this community lost our good friend Tanvir.  Even if you didn't know Tanvir, you probably saw him at a show because he was everywhere.  This band has done a lot over the years, but the most special thing it's done is helped us get introduced to the nicest people in the world.  

You may have already seen the Tanimal shirts and banners at shows in Europe and in the US.  I'm sure you are going to see them in Chicago because Chicago is Tanvir's home show.  For a guy that has meant so much to so many, it would mean the world to us if you play Who You Are for Tanvir's hometown shows in Chicago.   His final resting spot is nearby so play it loud and play it proud.  

Here is a short note from one of Tanvir's best friends Nicole.  She doesn't really post on here so she asked me to post it on her behalf. 

On March 29, 2018, the world lost one of the most incredible souls I’ve ever encountered. Tanvir had the kindest heart, the sharpest wit, and an unwavering loyalty to his friends that knew no bounds.

Tanvir redefined what it meant to be a friend to someone. He was there for anyone, in any way they needed, at any hour. He was always there to listen without judgement, to provide a voice of reason, and to make us laugh until it hurt. He made me, and so many others, feel a lot less alone in this crazy world. 

Together, we shared countless memories touring across the world at Pearl Jam shows with Tanvir. He was supposed to meet us here in Prague, and join all of us for several shows on the tour. Today, we have over 20 of us gathered here at this show, wearing these shirts in his memory, paying tribute to the love that he gave to us, and to everyone else that knew him. “Trippin’ Balls” is an homage to the sign he held up at his 50th show in Hampton, on the 2016 tour. He would have done anything to make us laugh, and we hope that somewhere out there, he’s having a laugh tonight too.

At the top of Tanvir’s Facebook profile, he had the following lines quoted from “Who You Are”:

So I would say you've got a part
What's your part? Who you are
You are who, who you are

Those words are a perfect summation of what Tanvir gave to each and every one of his friends around the world. He was there for his friends unconditionally and made them feel valued, loved, and accepted just as they were.

It would mean the absolute world to us if we could hear “Who You Are” in Chicago in Tanvir’s honor. It was Pearl Jam‘s music that brought this amazing human being into our lives, allowing us all to cross paths and share such a wonderful time together on this planet. For that, we are eternally grateful.

So let's celebrate life and our dear friend Tanvir.

    Having a Miller High Life in Chicago now for Tanvir.
    Last time I was here was for Tanvir’s funeral. 
    This is gonna be harder than I thought . 
    Miss him so much.

    Right after posting this I scored floor tix for Saturday night section P during the ticket drop.  I have to believe Tanimal was looking out for me.

    Awesome  we have 13 on the aisle, picked them up in the unannounced drop last Thursday. See you Saturday!

    A huge loss for our PJ community. At the Seattle and Missoula shows, the one time he and I would see each other this year, really felt like something was missing. Tanvir, I miss you terribly and I hope the stars align for this song to be played loud and proud to the Chicago crowd and to you, no doubt rocking out from above.

    Also really miss hearing this song live.  Even loved the version they did on the 2008 tour.

    I didn't know Tanvir, but from all I've seen posted about him, seems like he was a great guy. Hopefully this happens.

    Only knew Tanvir for a short time, he’s the first person I think of when I remember The Real World Wrigley house (seemed he was always sleeping on the couch).

    Ok things are getting weird.  Sitting in my office i was getting mad at one of my employees.  I thought I’d better calm down and hang up my Seattle flag as it would remind me I’m flying to Chicago tonight.

    as soon as the flag went up, Who You Are came on PJ radio.  In fact, as I’m typing this, Smile is on.

    I miss you already.
