This from a different perspective that says a lot about how good that was.
My aunt and uncle (who I am close with)(they've known forever that I love Pearl Jam but never paid any attention)72 & 73 years old, they have been watching lots of movies & Oscars for their whole adult lives.  They love everything about movies and haven't missed an Oscars broadcast in 50 years.  So this morning after I watched the video of Ed at the Oscars last night, I texted my aunt and said "How did you like Eddie's performance, you know that's Pearl Jam frontman right?"
She, my aunt 72 totally unfamiliar with Pearl Jam, texted me back saying,,, & this is her direct quote word for word.
"had no idea he was your favorite group's lead singer... No wonder you are such a big fan... His singing was the best part of that entire show...GREAT JOB"

Yeah, I have some friends, who have never been afraid to let me know how much they don't like Pearl Jam, text me saying what a great job he did.

I'm amazed at the level of anger and complaining I read coming from this. Makes me realize how toxic the internet and social media have become. Are people in general just miserable? This isn't 1995 Ed, deal with it. Some of us have evolved over 2 plus decades, some of us obviously haven't.

It was a great cover from an artist Ed respected and loved. Sorry he didn't tag it with a TOTD cover, or play a snippet of a song from every musician who's recently passed. This wasn't about Ed but rather those who passed in the film industry this past year. Ed can't win, I respect that he does what he feels is right and doesn't try to appease the 40 year old, still live in their parents basement demographic. If he had PJ would be an irrelevant night club act rather than selling out stadiums.

Agreed. It's getting worse and worse. People are irrational and quick to anger. The internet has always been the wild west in a lot of ways but in the last year things have gotten much uglier, IMO.
Everyone has gotten to know each other on the internet for 10 years and now we fight like family.
This and people are getting more creative with their bait and trolling. Before a simple quote like PJ suxz would get hundreds of responses. Now people need to put some effort in to get a reaction. It is painful how many gullible people are out there and feed them though. Almost as painful as it is reading comments where people are trying to get a rise or start an argument just by posting something controversial whether they believe it or not.
Baiting and trolling are two of the lowest forms of entertainment.

Tom Petty has a SAG card. He’d need it in order to have been in that great Kevin Costner blockbuster, The Postman. Therefore, he should have been honored during the In Memoriam segment.
Btw, the movie is actually turrible.
Not everyone who was ever in a movie and passed away gets honored in that segment.  Every year there’s a big debate about why certain people were left out.

I forget who was in the segment, but Adam West was a TV star?  Wouldn't he appear in the Emmy's memorial segment?

Give or take a few exceptions:

    Grammy's:  Music
    Emmy's: TV
    Oscars:  Movies and Miniseries

I really enjoyed the performance when I finally got to see it the following night. Was that Tom Petty's guitar that Eddie was using or just a replica?

I think these are the last two times Ed has been onstage. At least the last two times I've seen him. Not bad, not bad at all!

Nice that Lawrence can muster up a happy mood with her latest movie tanking at the BO.
Which movie was that? If you mean Mother!, it may not have done well at the box office (did anyone really expect a move like that to be a big money maker?), but it's a really good movie! She's probably proud of it.
I think SC meant Red Sparrow.

Also I don't think JLaw gives a fuck. She's got critical credit and box office hits. She can coast the rest of her career.

And she's not even 30. Color me jealous.

    Interesting.

Thought  it was great.... Seen alot of negative  stuff but as a wise man once said..
A man who view's the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life...
I believe someone put that on Facebook and just think it's a great analogy.... Pearl jam and Eddie have grown and I think that if they still had the same views then there music would not be a good and present as it is..
As long as they never lose that edge pearl jam and Eddie will always be relevant imo.... So fair play to him i thought it a nice touch. ..

I don't really understand why this is such an issue for people. Is he not a musician? Isn't that what musicians do, play music? Strange how this is such a subject. And by the way, he absolutely killed it like he always does, very cool. EV always has a way to make a great song his own and it's fucking awesome. Strange to complain about something enjoyable....
