After Listening to all the 2008 Boots (Just my opinion)

Well after listening to all the concerts from the 2008 tour (and having been at MSGII), I am suprised to say that in MY (and only my) opinion, that the Columbia, SC show is my favorite boot to listen to.

I thought some were great (Hartford), some where OK (DC), but this one stood out from set list to crowd and speeches.

So many people spoke up about the Hartford and other shows, I thought I would throw my opinion out there if anyone missed it.

I hear you...I wasn't at Columbia, but I gravitate to the boot a lot, and I notice my wife does too when picking one out. Very together show.

I think Camden II is great for sound and setlist

Mikes tone is what messes up the boots. Thats why its hard to hear him, its so fuzz heavy it kills the tone. Live and studio tone are two differnet things. Its sounded great live but does record well

Agreed. Some great Eddie quotes on Columbia!

  • The more I listen to the Virginia Beach boot I reckon it's a bit of a sleeper. Particularly the encores which I feel captures the real enthusiasm from the band that night and of course the excellent Rockin' in the Free World closer.

I enjoyed the show live at the time but thought the crowd was a little subdued which reduced my enjoyment a little, but the crowd sounds great on the boot so maybe I was a little harsh initially.

I agree with Virginia Beach being a sleeper. I went to and loved Mansfield I and II. Those boots are great, but I love Long Road, so I got this boot and was very impressed.

I've only heard the one I went to - MSGI - but one thing I want to say is that the sound quality (IMO) on this year's bootlegs is the best I've heard - the only ones that I think even come close are the North America 2000 ones. I understand the crowd is less in the mix than the 2003 ones, and I think the quick turnaround for the downloads in 2006 led to less re-mastering. This year the separation of Stone and Mike into the left and right channels with less bleeding of the guitars into one another has returned, which really enables you to very distinctly hear what each of them are doing, and on top of that, this is the first time I can really remember being able to easily pick out Ed's guitar from the mix as well, rather than it all bleeding together like mulch. On top of that, the snare and bass are well balanced and they also somehow managed to bring Ament up in the mix without overwhelming the whole thing.

Honestly, the sound this time is incredible, at least to me.

I think Camden2 sounds fine in the car driving fast, but I didn't like it as much on a pair of nice headphones. Sounds muddy. That's my non-audiophile take.
I only ordered that and Hartford (the shows I went to), and I like the latter a lot more - you can hear mike, which is great because he tore it up that night.

So I'm thinking about getting two boots from the last tour...

What you're saying Columbia and Hartford are the best?

i actually find myself listening to columbia more than any of the others. i think the set list is great and its just a great show. i disagree that DC is just okay, i think that DC (mainly cuz of black and rvm) and columbia are my two faves.

I attended West Palm Beach, Tampa, Columbia, West virginia, Boston 1-2, and i agree Columbia was the best shows of the 6. I picked up an extra poster in Tampa if anyone has anything to offer for a trade let me know.
