I went last year and entering the park was a soup sandwich. Line went 20ish blocks from the field and people were cutting were the line breaks at intersections. Just wondering if anyone knows how early I need to show up to avoid the same fate
My daughter and I went all in last year and lined up early. I think we were there between 7 and 8. We were within the first 2 blocks from the entrance to the park. We ended up about 5ish "rows" from the stage. This varied during the day as people moved in and out. Some of the acts were actually physically painful to endure. I'm not sure of our plan for this but I don't feel like seeing Ed play a few songs solo will be worth it from waaaay back on the lawn. Since I'm guessing he'll play early I might line up early to get up close again and then move back when his set is done.

Yea, last year's GCF was kinda my first PJ show (21-year old me #evenbro'd and got too drunk to remember anything at Lollapalooza in '07) if it wasn't for that and the great fans we met in line, I would've just stayed home, avoided all that and watched it on YouTube because we were so far and ended up watching on screens and sound wasnt that great back there either. I've been to 3 out of the 4 GCF's (2012, 2013, 2015), and will be going this year as well. Last year was the worst I've ever seen it, by far. The first two years, there were no metal detectors, which made the lines move quicker. I think I was on line for 2 hours before getting into the park last year, versus 20/25 minutes the previous years. 2012 my group loved the line up, so we got on line at around 10am. 2013, we got into the park an hour or so before the show started, and ended up, funny enough, in the same exact place as the year before. Last year, we got on line a little after 12pm, and got into the park a little after 2pm. We were definitely further back than the first two years.
The first year and second year, we also were at the front of our pen (a little closer than the middle of the park), on the rail, and had more than enough room to be comfortable. Last year was incredibly tight, and we moved from the front of our pen to the back for more breathing room. I'm hoping this year mirrors the first two!

Last year they only had the headliners in the poster. And the day of we got a few extra acts. Tori Kelly played for about 12 minutes. This year it seems like all the acts are in the poster. Hopefully they don't add any more. Here's hoping Major Lazer has to cancel and they let Ed play for 45 minutes.
I've been to every GC Concert in Central Park. IMO (for those over 30) there's no reason to go unless you can afford the Ultimate VIP package.
re: last year's show I don't know anyone who tried and DID NOT get tickets. They give out a lot more than capacity because there are a lot more no shows when tix are free
