July 26 2016

Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Major Lazer, and Metallica will headline the 2016 Global Citizen Festival, the annual free-ticketed event on the Great Lawn in Central Park in New York City on Saturday, September 24, 2016. The Festival will harness actions from millions of Global Citizens around the world to hold world leaders accountable to the progress made toward achieving the Global Goals set out by the United Nations last year.

Special guest performances will be given by Usher, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Ellie Goulding, Yandel, and Yusuf/Cat Stevens.

Hosts for this year’s Festival will include Chelsea Handler, Deborra-lee & Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Seth Meyers.

Over the past five years, the Festival has served as a convening moment where tens of thousands of Global Citizens have come together to celebrate the commitments their campaigning efforts have helped achieve. Since 2012, more than six million actions from Global Citizens have led world leaders to enact policy changes and commit significant resources to issues of girls and women’s equality, education, health, water and sanitation, environment, finance and innovation, and food and hunger. These financial and policy commitments and announcements are set to affect the lives of up to 656 million people.

People everywhere are invited to sign-up, take actions, and enter the prize draws for free tickets. In total, almost 50,000 free tickets to the Festival will be given out to Global Citizens. For more information about the artists, schedules, and event, please visit https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/festival/2016/education/

Went last year. It felt like the world's worst and largest office party. Security was inconsistent. One side let in people with backpacks and the other made people stash their bags in bushes. Definitely go for VIP if it's in your budget

Interesting, they only have one tier of VIP this year. Last year there were 3 tiers, and VIP 1 that was directly in front of the stage was just way out of reach (I think it was $1,000 or $1,500?)

Looking back at the show online...VIP one last year seems worth it
  • URthekeyURthekey Posts: 1,610
I did VIP 2 last year and had a great time. Met some really cool people standing near me all day and rocked out to PJ under the NYC sky.
    I'm in again this yr.
Even if Ed does only a few songs I want to be there.
I just checked and VIP tix are still available, over 3 hrs since they went on sale. Last yr they were gone like "poof".
That just attests to the loyal fan base PJ has amassed.

I'm expecting Ed's set to be during the day so I might not stay til the end this time, but if he drops in during Metallica, and I left early, I'll cry.

P.S. Thanx Father Hubbard for sharing.

Cause last year's VIP 2 and 3 sucked. I had VIP3 and was close to VIP3 rail for Pearl Jam's set and the band looked like ants. I was watching on the big screen's. Oddly enough I ended up rocking out during the bands set with a fellow fan whom I've known for years since being a member of this board.

I'm not hating GC for the idea of this festival, but the execution of it sucks. You have all these artist this year who are barely gonna play 5 songs and you charge that much money for VIP, wow that's pretty low. What they should is spread out the festival over 2 days, that way every artist plays at least 2 hours or so.

Probably 1-3 songs, as he's listed as a guest. The line-up is OK, but it's a bunch of people I've seen before, plus some others that I really don't want to sit through  But I just entered anyways. We'll see!
