I still don't listen to it. Not a song IMO. Just noise.

I used to skip it, but I appreciate it more now. Revolution 9 influence is evident

I remember my first time listening to Stupid Mop. Thought that the random noise was just a weird intro and it was about to start rocking. Never did.

That kind of interlude can't be analysed separately from the whole album. It's not made to be listen to on its own. The Rolling Stone article is irrelevant.

Ah! Exactly what happened to me!
I don't exactly know why, but I clearly remember the first time I listened to that track, after all that noise and weird voices, I was sure it was about to start a super rocking song in the veins of Spin the black circle..
After about 4 minutes, "Well, the actual song is going to be shorter than the intro, but cool anyway"
    After 5 minutes "MMMh..."
After 6 minutes "Fuck it! What the hell"
When it was finally over, I listened to STBC again and pretended that was the song I was waiting for.

I think after all those days and nights listening to the entire album while waiting for the next to come has conditioned me to accept that it is a song and one I want to hear live.

I think it is a shitty waste of space on the record. It made me take a PJ break when that album was released. There was so much great music happening in Seattle back then that I didn't have time to waste on that nonsense. It took a while for the album to grow on me, but this "song" never has. I guess I'm just not avant garde enough.

I think pj always makes sure since 10 you don't love it. So they can lay low and not do the hit song bs radio tour.

Why else keep some of your best songs off albums.

    Believe you me
    Homeless
    Ledbetter
    And many others.

I think because they got so big they know they don't want that again.

If they wanted to be big they could easily do an album with their best songs. But fuck you. That's why I love them.

I don't believe Pearl Jam recorded Believe you me or Homeless. Those were Eddie during his days with Bad Radio.

Brendan O'Brien pushed them to include Better man. Eddie didn't want to at first from what i recall.

That is correct (and personally, I don't think either of those songs even come close to PJ standards). And YLB doesn't even have any set lyrics, so I don't see how it could be on an album. That would freeze the lyrics, which just wouodn't work for Eddie as far as I can tell. I feel like YLB is more an inside joke for the band at this point.

Really? I didn't know that. Another strike against BoB of that's true. Better Man just seems like such a strange fit on Vitalogy to me. It's not a bad song, but I think the album would be better without it.
