Stubhub listings come from individual sellers and brokers. People always assume there is a mass conspiracy when they can't get tickets for shows they want to see.

The above article references employees at MSG selling tickets for Rangers and Knicks games. Not Concerts.

What people find online in advance of public sales is known as "speculative listings". Prior to the most recent Springsteen sale the NY A.G. was able to get sites like Stubhub to remove the listings.

The Times article specifically references U2 at the Barclays center. And brokers located in Manhattan and Long Island who used bots. It even named a broker, M.S.M.S.S. Which I remember because it's a funny name.

  • We need a 10c ticket bot for those of us who get shut out.
Oh yeah. That would be like the 10c but we all actually get tickets.

    A question re bots...

If TM really wanted to stop them isn't there a programme they could use/come up with?

I'm a simpleton when it comes to IT so it might be a simple no as an answer but my brain says if I can buy a bot online if I want, surely a multi million $ company can employ people to stop the bot.

The stat I read a year or so ago is 90% of traffic will be bots with them claiming 60% of the tickets.

Are you referring to scanning a credit card and it spitting out your tickets?
They have a way around that too.
We went to AZ for Memorial Day weekend last year with some friends. Saw ahead of time U2 was there. Looked around for tickets. Vivid ( I believe) had GA for $99. Good price.
We bought them. They sent us a credit card. Scanned it popped out our tickets. Done.

Deep breath. We have a few months. These prices will drop. The sellers are looking for suckers to buy now. Don't be a sucker.

Ticketmaster owns TM+ and Ticketmaster ticket exchange.

    Ebay owns Stubhub.

My bad. Thanks for the correction.

Ticket scalping as a whole is getting worse. In the super bowl in AZ last year many people bought tickets from brokers and were turned away when they got here for the game. Tickets are being sold on speculation based on normal demand and expected price. If the broker doesn't score normal tickets they will assume they can get some later for a certain price and keep selling them when they still don't have them. In the case of the super bowl in AZ the ticket prices did not drop as the game got closer as is normal. They instead went way up as the Cards stadium isn't Dallas or SF and sits far less than those sites so there were less tickets. So the brokers had a choice, buy tickets at a higher rate than they sold them for to fulfill orders or just cancel them when people got here. They chose to not take a loss. People paid thousands for air and hotel and had to watch the game from a bar and no one did a damn thing to those brokers. Same thing is happening in SF this year and could lead to same scenario if ticket prices don't drop.

I really just don't get the anger. They are a commodity being sold in large part by people that don't share the same passion for the actual event as many of those that want to go do. They are just like stocks, except ones that grant access to events and have a definitive expiration date.

If anything, organized, legalized 100% guaranteed secondary marketplaces have helped eliminate people buying fakes and getting really, REALLY screwed out of money.

I don't do it for PJ shows, but I'll admit right now that I have absolutely made money playing the StubHub market for many events over the years. It's easy, and it's gotten me into a ton of events for free.

I agree with you on some level here. That said...i only wish more tickets were sold to actual fans first instead of blocks of tickets going to brokers. Or worse, TM's own resale site.

Why? Why is selling tickets at market rate a scarlet letter I should run from?

I would say that 75% of my sales are for New York Mets tickets, which I have season tickets for. I have 4 tickets, for 81 games. That's 324 tickets I need to use or sell in a 6 month span.

Not only does the team promote selling your extra's via StubHub, my Mets online account actually links directly to it for Christs sakes.

Last season because the team never thought in a million years they would go as far as they did allowed season ticket holders to load up on playoff tickets. I would up having my seats, plus 4 more full strips, plus a bunch of individual tickets for single games. I sold a bunch for face to friends and to my Mets online community, and made a freaking killing selling the rest which afforded me the ability to enjoy the whole run and make money the further they went. I'm not sure why I need to hide or feel ashamed about any of that. A buyer paid the price they wanted to pay for a commodity for something I \wanted to sell. What exactly am I ashamed of doing here?

Ha, watch away. I'm either taking my friend as my GA +1 for the MSG1 show or trading for a MSG2 from someone here.

Like I said, I have a firm exception for PJ tickets. I don't resell them, not like prior to this lotto I ever even had any to resell anyway,
