Senior Members Can You Please Stop The Whining?
Never, ever, ever did being a member of 10c give you dibs on tix.
Your membership along with many other perks gives you a chance at entering a pre-sale, always has and always will.
It is very embarrassing to hear the entitlement complaints.
Nobody cares if you're a senior member - seniority kicks in if you get tix.
If you are a senior you must surely lend to the matter of being young and hoping to get tix.
New fans are abundant now because seniors have been singing the story for 25yrs about how great Pearl Jam is.
A band that is going into the RHOF has many fans no?
This seniority entitlement thinking shit has to end.
Find another way into the building.

I am not upset about getting tickets but some are. The seniors are mostly upset because they virtually were guaranteed tickets to a show in the past because you could only request 1 show. Now that you can request multiple shows it leaves many empty handed. I find it hard to justify people getting toronto, philly, and ottawa when there were people who only picked Toronto or only picked Philly. Same with those few who scored both a Philly and MSG show. Many were shut out of both of those.
I also am not convinced they have that many new fans and demand is overwhelming. At least in my radio market (Kansas City) PJ has been relegated to the classic rock station and not alternative. They classic station doesn't play their new stuff and the alternative station doesn't play them at all. I think they have developed a core touring following much like the dead. Kids aren't jumping on the PJ band wagon. I agree, I don't think PJ is as popular to the masses as we think they are (okay go ahead throw your tomatoes). Most people's response that I know and are into music to finding out PJ was touring was "Cool.". That was it more or less.JB56195 said:

Pearl Jam clearly isn't as popular among the younger generation. It doesn't take a genius to know that. However, there is money in the band. That being noted by posters ebay'ing for $500-$1000 and guitar picks for $100. I would be interested to see how memberships jump during periods of heavy tour rumors. Now that the most brand new of members have the exact same shot at getting tix to whatever show as anyone, I can imagine there are quite a few "businesses" who have taken note. And I'm not complaining. I've been in the club 23 years and have never gotten shut out of a ticket cycle, but there is easy money to be exploited here.
And to the original poster, the membership hasn't "always" given me a shot at a pre-sale. I once was guaranteed tickets. One show. Seats determined by my seniority. But a guarantee is a guarantee. Maybe last in 2000? Or 2003. I can't remember. Doesn't matter, anyway.
Best of luck to those shut out. And enjoy to those who are in. Hope to see some of you at Lexington and Greenville.0 -

21 year old here. Live on the East Coast. Roll in a lot of different social circles. Just about all of my friends absolutely love Pearl Jam, although few have ever been to a show because ticket prices are "too expensive". Phone blew up when the Fenway shows were announced. Tons of friends wanting to go to BOTH shows with me. "I don't care how much it costs, have to see 'em this time." That being said, I'm from the Midwest. The fact that I love Pearl Jam so damn much is a joke to most of my friends over there.Mignelli14 said:

Can confirm though - at least on the East Coast, the younger generations do love them and want to see them perform live.Post edited by AlaG on0 -
This system could be improved. I agree it sucks that some people get multiple shows and some get nothing. Maybe to make it more fair, people who got tickets for one show get withheld from other shows to allow people who didn't get them, have a better chance. This will help to "spread the love around" better and more fairly. Many of you will disagree Im sure. It can be done. Yeah it would take more time for the ten club to do this, but something needs to happen.1998: Pitt

My buddy who joined three months ago thinks it's hilarious that he got Toronto GA while I got shut out of Toronto. I am not whining about it...just pointing out the craziness of it all.0

The people that came away with nothing.. Odds are they used their first 4 picks for high demand shows.
The people that got multiple... Odds are used their early picks for small market areas.
Makes complete sense to me how some got none and some got multiple tickets.0 -
Couldn't agree more. 20 and 30 year old fans shouldn't be automatically shut out due to it being impossible that they could have joined any early. There are problems with the lottery system but seniority guaranteeing someone tickets isn't one of them0

They seem to have a lot of new fans just going off of the increase in membership numbers. The numbers were in the mid-400K about 4 years ago and now they are in the 500K range, meaning they are getting around 20,000 new members a year. Of course other have dropped, but 20,000 joining every year seems like a lot on top of the 200-250K existing members as mentioned by Tim a couple years back. Doesn't matter if these people are young or old (but some are indeed young - I've seen them at shows, they are on the FB pages, etc). PJ is headlining Bonaroo and did the same at Global Citizen, playing TWO shows at Wrigley and TWO shows at Fenway, they are still playing the late night shows, their music is used regularly in popular prime time TV shows and and during major pro sports event broadcasts, sharing headline spots with Jay-Z and the like.... PJ is actually pretty mainstream. There is obviously more than just an aging core following.JB56195 said:I am not upset about getting tickets but some are. Mind you, they have poor markets. Sometimes they don't even sell out an arena in the smaller markets (and even in some of the bigger ones if there are other shows nearby). But then the good markets are really good. I Bt the people who are whining are the ones going for the big markets. NYC, TO, Philly, etc. Not sure what else thy expect. Looks like there are about 10 people for every club ticket entering the lottery. Maybe more. Of course a lot of people didn't score tix. If they wanted a show they should have made their first pick one of the less popular cities. If they don't want to travel, well, not necessarily getting a 10C ticket is the terrible price you pay for living in and around massive metropolitan centers.
Anyway, don't forget people: there are about 170,000 more PJ tickets that will be released to the 10C members and the public soon enough. Why not try for a couple of those?

I think it should also be pointed out that many people have been fans for 10-20 or even 25 years, and might not have joined the fan club. That doesn't make them any less deserving. They still bought the albums and supported the tours.0

as a part of that younger generation (turning 16 in a couple of days) I can say that I have a lot of friends who like Pearl Jam (none of them as much as me though). I don't think people give us enough credit, I think people only hear bad things about us and really nothing positive about us.BettrMan21 said:Pearl Jam clearly isn't as popular among the younger generation.

The only fix I think there should be is eliminating the GA vs Res as separate picks. It is that part of the lottery that screws with our heads. Let people rank the cities they want and then use seniority to figure out where the seat is. Ten Club could then alert us to location earlier where fans who don't want GA could easily swap out to Res.0

Here's another wacky way to look at all this. Some of the people that have gone to 10 bazillion shows won't be able to go to 10 bazillion shows, plus 1 in favor of some that have not. I love PJ and I love their fans, but holy fuck, the sense of entitlement that the longer time 10c members have as though the band is 'theirs' borders on madness. I'm 39. I've been listening to this band since high school. I've just scalped my way into all the shows in the past before finally deciding to sign up here like 6 months ago. I won GA for MSG 1, which for all the PJ shows I've seen there have never been able to experience. If that bothers you, you can kindly suck it.'I know I was born and I know that I'll die, the in between is mine.'0

I agree. If i could choose to give tickets either to someone who has never seen a PJ show, or has only seen a few PJ shows, or to some megafan who has traveled the world to see dozens or hundreds of shows and lined up for a total of 500 hours in GA lineups over 25 years, I wouldn't even have to give it a second's thought. The tickets would go to the one who hadn't already seen them over and over and over again. I almost feel like the more shows you've seen maybe the LESS entitled you should be to get tix. But that would be tilting too far the other way, so the lottery seems a fair happy medium.Saltzy23 said:Here's another wacky way to look at all this.
