Songs that are better live than in studio?

mschostokmschostok Chicago, IL Posts: 858
I've always thought songs like Given to Fly, Brain, and Immortality are way better live than in the studio. What are some songs you think are better live than in studio? Also, give me your favorite live version of those songs.
Milwaukee 2014
MSG 2016 1&2
Wrigley 2016 1&2
Eddie Vedder Obama Farewell Address 2017
Eddie Vedder Louisville, KY 2017

Light Years was great on Binaural but I much prefer live versions, especially when Ed adds some new lyrics to the outro. The first time this happened and one of the best versions for me was Pinkpop 2000

Hail, hail especially circa 98/00. Matts drumming back then made the song kickin. It's good in the studio but I love matts crash symbols at the start as well as his fills that Jack doesn't do on the album.

I would say it's easier to comment on what studio tracks are better than the live ones. I see the studio tracks as the basic blueprint of the song, which the band then perfect over years of playing it live. So when it comes to studio vs live - I prefer the studio versions of:

    In my tree
    All or none
    Sleight of Hand
"Bring it back, to the clean form. To the pure form"

    28/09/04 - Boston, 20/04/06 - London [\\mm//Astoria\\mm//] - 18/06/07 - Wembley Arena, 11/08/09 -  London [\\mm//Shepherds Bush Empire\\mm//],18/08/09 - 02 Arena, 25/06/10 - Hyde Park, 26/06/12 - Amsterdam, 27/06/12 - Amsterdam, 08/07/14 - Leeds,11/07/14 - Milton Keynes, 13/06/18 - Amsterdam, 18/06/18 - London 02 Arena, 17/07/18 - London 02 Arena, 08/08/22 - Hyde Park, 9/08/22 - Hyde Park - 25/08/22 - Amsterdam, 29/07/24 - London {*Tottenham Stadium TBC*}

Rearviewmirror. While even the studio album version is already a Pearl Jam "popular classic", this song live is just crazy good. Philly night 1 2013 was ridiculous.

Most songs - except a lot from LB - some just don't translate well in the live setting.

I listened to the Hartford '13 show the other day and I would like to nominate that version of Betterman.

That's a good way to look at it, I'd agree with the above named songs, I'd add Sirens, Deep, and In Hiding, just to name a few.

Yes. The studio version is just a bit too measured and precise. The good live versions are fantastic, although there are some crappy live versions where Ed just drops some of the lyrics.

Tend to agree with this post - especially with Getaway and Infallible.
