Every single outdoor show I've ever been to forced me to dump my camel pack out before entering, directing me to a water fountain or filling station inside of the venue. Given the crazy security measures taken at this event in previous years, you can bet on this being the case. Don't waste your $$$.

Security is tight. They will not let in ANY backpack which a Camel back is. Nips has worked in the past. bra, waistband, socks. So sad but hey I want what I want!

Anybody else thinks it's weird that the whole point of Global Citizen is to break down economic barriers, end poverty, and give people equal access to food, medicine, and education but they segregate people into pens at these shows and make more amenities available to those who have more money?
I'm not knocking them.... I think it's a great organization, but the whole premise seems weird in light of their goals.

Yes there's a little bit of irony there but I'm good with it if it's for a good cause.
From what I hear, don't plan a a lot of amenities being available, even in VIP. Come hydrated buzzed and empty. Hopefully it will be better this year, but Ive heard its bare bones when it comes to facilities and services. +1 on nips and flexible flasks http://www.hideyourbooze.com/rumruflfl.html

I know. But which pen you get into depends on $$$.
Again... I'm not bashing GC. Just noting the irony of how they set this thing up.

Spot on, I for one am sick of absurdly rich people offering 2 hours of their time, asking the average Joe, $$, to save the world. I know they do a lot, even donate their own money, raise awareness, etc. but % wise, what people spend to attend these events, is pocket change to the artists.

I hate to be negative, but it's getting old.
That makes no sense. The money generated from all of the tickets isn't pocket change to anyone. Holy crap, when you start trashing anyone's effort to bring awareness to important issues (and btw that IS the main point of GC - raising awareness in order to try and get people more engaged in the issues it addresses), it is time to look inwards and figure out what's wrong with you. Imagine criticizing charity concerts... yet no worries when none of the revenue goes to charity. Apparently you're totally fine with artists keeping all the money. It's just the charity part that you have a problem with. SMH.

I rarely in all these years of being around here ever disagree with your opinion, but this time I do. It's totally a caste system. VIP1 gets liquor and whatnot, while VIP 2 and 3 get nothing, that right there is a social caste system. GA isn't truly GA, it's a first come, first serve get in a pen. They even tell you in the FAQ's make sure everyone in your group shows up together or else you won't be together. Now at other festivals, it's just an open field with no pens and come one, come all. At MIA I had people around me whose friends showed up late and still were able to be near them
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
If I arrive at the Festival a few hours after my friends and want to meet up with them, will this be difficult?
Yes. We strongly suggest arriving at the Festival with the person/people whom you would like to sit with. This is a 60,000-person general admission event. Attendees will be sectioned off in pens on the Great Lawn according to their time of arrival and will not be able to move between pens. If you would like to attend the show with friends, please meet them outside the park and enter together.
Pens for GA, really now? What are we cattle for a "cause" or are we people?

I agree, it's not GA at all (at least not in the traditional sense). I would not want to get stuck in one of the rear pens, and I'm not the type of person to be there when the gates open. (12:00 gates, show starts at 3? Nevermind having to line up at the gate ahead of time...... No thanks)
Of course, I suppose if you play your cards right, and got there early enough you could in theory be on the rail for a free PJ show. It might get a little cramped is all, and that would be a long ass day!

I'm never one to get to a concert earlier either, which is why I got VIP. I also got VIP cause if pj truly is the headliner, I won't be forced to watch Beyonce, I can go to the bathroom and look for food.

You could go to Central Park now, locate where you think your approximate holding pen will be, dig a hole and bury your beloved booze. Show time you just find the spot and dig it out with your hands What could go wrong?
