Overrated, Underrated, or Properly Rated: Pearl Jam

From albums to drummers to hats, a conclusive guide to alt rock's enduring giant

I don't agree with much of it, but it is a funny and educated to an extent read. Lots of topics covered, funny

I hadn't seen that before... Pretty solid article, I thought. Opinionated, but it was supposed to be... Only thing that really jumped out at me is weird is that the author can't find any songs that he likes on Binaural...

He completely sums up my entire life when he talks about the VMA performance.

And the Porch unplugged comment is hilarious. (and true)

The Coldplay one is outstanding, worth a read.

    cheers

I agree w/Schmakt - opinionated - but didn't enjoy his piece at all - appears the writer wants another cookie cutter band. F that. He obviously can have his own opinion but he's missing the mark big time.
Oh please let it rain today.

I enjoyed that. He's way off about many things (Binaural sucks and Backspacer is great??? Right....).

It was definitely well informed and not a dickhead Pitchfork type profile. Funny at times too. And that VMA performance pretty much changed my life. I was 13 and completely mesmerized. It must have been what it was like to see the Beatles for the first time on Ed Sullivan. I can't express what the effect was on me, a young man figuring out the world and who he was or wanted to become. Sounds crazy from just seeing a couple dudes play a rock song but I knew it was something different and I wanted to be a part of it. I'll never forget talking to my friends about it the next day. One of my friends said Ed looked "retarded" when he sang. I sort of agreed but I remember thinking it was a pretty "cool retarded."

Interesting read. Comments here range from good to bad and I would say this article is properly rated :)

Some interesting insights - what if yield came out after vs?

But this guy can't find a song on Binaural that he likes? And then talks about how good backspacer is? WTF.

    +1
Thanks OP for posting - enjoyed the read, and reflecting on my own experiences and opinions along the way. Totally disagree about Binaural of course - for me, that was the album that took me from casual fan to fan. Fun read - nothing in there to get riled up about ;)
