Buy from www.livedownloads.com instead, they have Apple Lossless format available as well.

I'm not an expert and I don't know your home theater/vintage tube amp/beats by dre setup.

iPods dont play FLAC files, and iTunes doesn't convert FLAC files. They have to be converted using another program (I use Sony Sound Forge but there is other Google-able software available) to deal with FLACs to WAV or AIFF, and then to mp3 in iTunes.

Lightning Bolt was available for download
    MP3
    FLAC lossless
    Apple lossless
    High Resolution WAV File

    Boot downloads are
    MP3(256 kbit/s VBR),
    FLAC
    FLAC HD (24 bit/96KHz)

Just my opinion, I think that in a "blind taste test", 9 of 10 people would be hard pressed to tell a MP3 from a FLAC file.

If your end use is 95% ipod, and you HAVE to download it TODAY (I was at both of those Worcester shows, and I understand your anxiousness), then you should get the MP3.
Depending on your "setup", the sound you get from a physical CD isn't going to be surprisingly different from a FLAC file. If you can wait, the CD is your best overall bet.

FLAC HD (24 bit/96KHz) is probably a whole different beast.

    I'd look this over... http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?board=150.0

If you don't have a DAC (or know what that is...) or if you don't have an optical or coaxial digital output from your computer to your stereo, or if these numbers (24 bit/96KHz) mean nothing to you, or if you can't burn or play DVD-Audio Linear PCMs then don't spend the extra money.

If you notice a marked difference between blu-ray sound and DVD sound, and have the proper hardware and or software to convert, then by all means, FLAC HD is probably awesome.

When I convert my LPs and cassettes to digital I save them as 24/96 FLAC files, but I leave the HD part off.

    Again, just my opinion.

Semi off topic but when I purchased Lightning Bolt on LP, these digital files were made available for download

    MP3
    FLAC lossless
    Apple lossless
    High Resolution WAV File

While waiting for my LP and then my replacement LP, I honestly couldn't tell the difference between FLAC and WAV. The MP3 version went right onto my ipod as downloaded, and through headphones (Sennheiser HD 280 pro, nothing amazing) or at high volume through a pretty decent high end car stereo (mobile ES, with some mad amplification), it's next to impossible to tell the difference. Again I'm not an expert...
