Why limited edition?

This pertains to a lot of items really but with the release of Sevens I'll ask...

Why limited edition items?

I personally don't see the reasoning or advantage to it, but I would love to see some responses and opinions as to why Pearl Jam (and every brand really) continues to sell limited edition items.

Cheers

See how many threads have been created over this? It's better than ANY press.

It creates environments that the band always railed against. Scalping, "not to be confused with the identical more expensive version", expensive bootlegs, etc. theyre just creating ebay fodder basically. Of course the real blame goes to the idiots who pay hundreds for things like PJ20 blu rays and Sevens.

This band is too huge to sell vinyl like an indie group. Into the Wild and Benaroya pressngs were tiny. This is too. Press 3500 of these things. Not 1000 or whatever.

Pressed to order like Vault 3 is the way to go for everything.

True... but beyond our weird and awkward community here :) ... how does this interest benefit the band? Especially considering the interest won't go beyond this forum and vinyl folks.

It creates zero interest. No one outside this forum community gives a fuck or will ever even know about it.

Maybe the ones offered up here first are limited edition in colour and they will be released en mass in the future as just regular ole black!

Maybe they're trying to create a buzz... You know, get some good word-of-mouth going.

But before you can open your mouth they're all sold out.
  • Awesome posts^^

I thought it was a tuneup for RSD. They might sneak them in?

I hope these are colored though. That would REALLY piss people off and talk more.

...People are still talking and looking and waiting for whats next...
  • it has NEVER made any sense to me. not one iota.

because you're right, october22. it will make zero impact beyond this fanclub/forum/fansites and those commenting tards over at grungereport.

    it doesn't benefit the band
it doesn't benefit the fan that isn't on here 24/7.

    it DOES benefit the flippers.

I'm saying this and I got one of the Seven sets.
