Beautiful song, is this another McCready tune does anyone know?

Jeff song. Jeff has contributed great to this album. Not in terms of quantity but quality. And his bass is also very dominant.

Yeah you can tell right away because it starts off almost identical to Low Light, lol. Both top notch songs were Jeff.

after more listens to this song, there could be a small connection to light years.

This song is definitely about gun violence, maybe even a nod to Newtown Conn.

    "Here far away
One could feel the earth vibrate"- The narrator can the feel the vibrations of a gunshot from afar.

Round we go, where we stop no one knows
So tonight the moon I go"- violence keeps coming full circle, wants to escape it to the moon.

"An echo that rings a bullet unchained
one life, one grave joins the parade"- obvious shooting of some sort.

At night the sky grows dark with fallen stars
who comes so far a headstone and grave
the colors turns grey, the black and white fades"- the fallen stars are the dead.

Great observation. Didn't the art for this song particular have the yellow moon and then with what looked like a six bullet revolver with only one chamber filled?

Awesome point about the yellow moon mythology. To me, this song really recalls "Release" in terms of its musical and vocal tension. Yeah, I think it's that good.

No to mention, this song is great for listening to in the fall this time of October. It definitely has that "fall-ish", October time of the year feel to it.

Yes, it's called a moon clip too.

I think it's inched it's way to my #2 from LB. Sounded really awesome at Pitt but I had a hard time hearing Mike way over on the rail on Stone's side. I hope they play it again in Baltimore, I have 2nd row dead center in the top tier, sound should be amazing.

This song is so confusing, but just awesome at the same time. The time signature, guitar, and lyrics make this such an obscure song, and it's just fucking great. It also has such a great "Fall feel" and October kind of feeling to it. Perfect to listen to this time of the year.

    Here far away
One could feel the earth vibrate
    Moon changing shape and shade
as we all do under its gaze
    Yellow moon on the rise
    Yellow moon on the rise

Round we go, where we stop no one knows
So tonight the moon i go...
    Yellow moon on the rise

An echo that rings a bullet unchained
one life, one grave joins the parade

At night the sky grows dark with fallen stars

This song hits me at so many levels... really a beautiful song.

For me, the lyrics express sadness about gun violence in general. There is no biting sarcasm ala Glorified G (great lyrics too). Not an impassioned call to action. It's just: hey this makes me really sad, people are dying everywhere, when's it going to end? And the music hits with that same lamenting feel... someone else mentioned "hollow and empty". I got chills listening this morning. One of my very favorites on LB.

    From last night's show:
(Ed mentions that they were still working on Yellow Moon in Seattle. When he was working on the bridge of the song they heard about the bombing of the Boston Marathon. He talks about the community pulling together and how they were pulling for Boston as well. He talks about some sort of threat like giant aliens that would hopefully pull humanity together and that we likely already have a threat in climate change and we have to work together.)

I've been trying to figure out exactly what this song is about. Its dark, and goes beyond talking about the actual moon.

Remember the artwork, with the 'Moon clip" of the gun with the single bullet.

An echo that rings a bullet unchained
one life, one grave joins the parade

Very interesting point. Just now you gave me cold chills, by laying this connection. (Screaming me in the face btw.)

Could the "round we go" bit actually refer to the chamber of the gun spinning? That's the imagine I get. Sort of like Russian roulette.

.. I didn't realize these were the words on my first few listens... When i saw that's what it said I listened a few more times.

The part of the song that has those lyrics just grows and grows until it feels like its going to explode and when it gets to the part that says " a headstone engraved, the colors turn grey, the black and white fades".... I really feel are some of the best and most emotional lyrics ever written by EV.

This song continues to grow on me. If you've only listened once or twice and didn't enjoy it, may I suggest giving it another shot and telling me how the lyrics speak to you once you know what they say.

I've heard throughout my life that when the moon is yellow it's a native belief that's because someone has died.. Now that I understand the lyrics the song has such a deeper meaning.

I've already heard a few stories of this song taking a few spins to fully grasp.. Any others have a similar experience with this song? This and pendulum are easily my favorites..
Yes, yes, yes! Same experience. Beautifully written song.

definitely could be - maybe referencing a round of ammo or spinning chamber/Russian roulette like you said... otherwise wouldn't he have said "around we go"?
