Fuck me silly this is good.

    Here far away
One could feel the earth vibrate
    Moon changing shape and shade
as we all do under its gaze
    Yellow moon on the rise
    Yellow moon on the rise

Round we go, where we stop no one knows
So tonight the moon i go...
    Yellow moon on the rise

An echo that rings a bullet unchained
one life, one grave joins the parade

At night the sky grows dark with fallen stars
who comes so far a headstone and grave
    the colors turns grey
    the black and white fades

    Yellow Moon on the rise
    Yellow Moon on the rise

    Yellow Moon on the rise
    Yellow Moon on the rise

It almost feels (lyric wise at least) like a lullaby. (Not that this bad.)

Except for the "bullet unchained" part and all the talk about graves and headstones.

Of course, in Rock-A-Bye Baby, the cradle falls out of a tree, baby and all, so maybe lullabyes are meant to be terrifying.

How can you not? Just listen to the first few seconds of Low Light, pause it, then play the first few seconds of Yellow Moon. It's almost identical. And that's not a bad thing.

  • My friend who is not a super-fan said at once when I played Yellow Moon for him "That's sounds like lowlight". Had not thought of it myself before but they are very, very similar in the beginning.

    alternate lyrics: :D

    Clouds roll by
    Reeling is what they say
Or is it just my way?
    Wind blows by, low light
    Side-tracked, low light
Can't see my tracks, your scent-way back
    .............

Song instantly reminded my of Low Light as well. Very Yieldesque feel to this song, easily why I like it so much.

Love this song. Definitely one of the best on the album. Love how it provides this sort of darker side and imagery while still sounding upbeat.

I was kind of surprised that they already busted this out in Pittsburgh. I was initially thinking that this song was going to be more of a rarity and not played as much live.

I heard this song on the stream and my first thoughts were this sounds very "country" and wasn't grasped my first listen.

After getting the files trough a friend and listening more... I really have fallen in love with this song. When the first chorus begins the song really opens up and has alot of atmosphere.. There's alot of empty behind the song.. The song is there but there is also a hollow empty sound behind it.. Not sure if you catch what I mean but I really enjoy that.

The middle of the song to the end just gets better. I really enjoy how much the song is allowed to breathe and where it grows. The song ends alot different than it begins.

We got the cd yesterday. Last night I was looking through the book and read the lyrics closer to the song..

    Here they are..

    Here far away
One could feel the earth vibrate
    Moon changing shape and shade

So tonight the moon i go...
    Yellow moon on the rise

    An echo that rings
    a bullet unchained
    one life, one grave
    joins the parade

    The sky grows dark
    with fallen stars
    who'd come so far

    a headstone engraved
    the colors turns grey
    the black and white fades

    Yellow Moon on the rise
    Yellow Moon on the rise

    --

The part I bolded really stood out to me and grabbed me.. I didn't realize these were the words on my first few listens... When i saw that's what it said I listened a few more times.

Clearly he is speaking of dying, or death with those words. It totally changed how I looked at the song and really impressed me.

The part of the song that has those lyrics just grows and grows until it feels like its going to explode and when it gets to the part that says " a headstone engraved, the colors turn grey, the black and white fades".... I really feel are some of the best and most emotional lyrics ever written by EV.

This song continues to grow on me. If you've only listened once or twice and didn't enjoy it, may I suggest giving it another shot and telling me how the lyrics speak to you once you know what they say.

I've heard throughout my life that when the moon is yellow it's a native belief that's because someone has died.. Now that I understand the lyrics the song has such a deeper meaning.

I've already heard a few stories of this song taking a few spins to fully grasp.. Any others have a similar experience with this song? This and pendulum are easily my favorites..

after more listens to this song, there could be a small connection to light years.

This song is definitely about gun violence, maybe even a nod to Newtown Conn.

    "Here far away
One could feel the earth vibrate"- The narrator can the feel the vibrations of a gunshot from afar.

Round we go, where we stop no one knows
So tonight the moon I go"- violence keeps coming full circle, wants to escape it to the moon.

"An echo that rings a bullet unchained
one life, one grave joins the parade"- obvious shooting of some sort.

At night the sky grows dark with fallen stars
who comes so far a headstone and grave
the colors turns grey, the black and white fades"- the fallen stars are the dead.

Before hearing it in Pitt, every time I listened to the studio version I liked it, but for some reason it failed to hold my attention. Live it was absolutely gorgeous and I have come to appreciate it much more since hearing it! It's a sleeper track on the album. Good stuff!

I love it more the more I listen to it. The way Ed "moves" his voice around in this song gives me shivers of joy. At some points, it almost sounds like he is singing in another language, one that I don't understand. It's so meditative. And I love the buildup. This song is slowly climbing up the ladder to get into one position with the beauty and perfection of Indifference for me... I love this band for putting out something new that has me thrilled so much

Jeff song. Jeff has contributed great to this album. Not in terms of quantity but quality. And his bass is also very dominant.
