This may sound strange...

but I am planning to wait to listen to Lightning Bolt til I actually have the vinyl in my hands. Don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful that it is streaming for free for anyone to hear, but I think I'm just an old fashioned gal. I can't wait to actually hold the album in my hands, tear the wrapping off, heck, even smell the record before I spin that black circle.

And I'm curious as to whether anyone else here is planning to wait til they actually have the vinyl or CD in their hands to listen to it all for the first time. :D

    I am waiting. Vinyl, headphones, whiskey. Can't wait. I've only heard MYM and Sirens so far. (And lighting bolt/future days at wrigley). I've done pretty much the same thing for every PJ album up to this point in time. I am really excited to hear the wax with headphones with fresh ears.

    I've was lucky enough to have seen and heard what was played in London and wrigley so far. And haven't heard any of the new stuff again.
    Will wait for Saturday night to hear more new stuff hopefully then break out the record
    Just filling my music tastes with some funk ATM

    its been 6.5 hours since it was released? I think i listened to the full thing 5 or 6 times, I lost count..

    I'm waiting until Pittsburgh. Wanna go in to the show cold. Vinyl might take awhile to arrive, so I'll probably do CD after that

    Actually I was the same way, until I realized that no matter what happens, I'm still going to be super excited come official release day :) plus, if Pearl Jam had wanted everyone to wait until the album was actually out, they wouldn't have done the stream. So I just went for it and I'm so glad I did! :D

    Yeah. I don't get this. Half the album was already out between singles and Wrigley. So, you're not really waiting. You're just punishing yourself for reasons only you know.

    Yep, I'm waiting until I get the CD. There's nothing better than listening to an album for the first time while taking a drive!

    After I listen to the vinyl at home, I do plan to drive around, listening to the CD in the car, opening the windows and cranking it up! :thumbup:

    yeah im with you here, I havent listened to it yet and plan to wait for the cd or vinyl to arrive for my first listen

    I would have waited until I found out/realised there's no way my vinyl's going to get to here by release day :( so I'll be spinning the itunes tonight.

    On my 5th time through. I remember listening to Backspacer 2 or 3 times through the first night. Best I can come up with is that I consumed Backspacer, a very tight, very precise album. But Lightning Bolt, especially the second half, is consuming me. There is a lot of room in the arrangements/instrumentation of these songs to explore. I know this may be a weird analogy, but this album reminds me of Dr. Seuss books when I was a kid. I would sit and stare at the pictures and wander around in them.

    Oh damn I tried so hard :D I was waiting for my CD n Vinyl.... but ugh... couldnt do it :D Still listening to this on vinyl for the first time will be an experience anyways :D

    Normally I would wait to have the CD or vinyl in hand, but I didn't want to go into Pittsburgh cold. I like to have some familiarity to the songs before hearing them live.

    I wish i could do that too. That was my thoughts about this album, i was dreaming of the moment i hold this in my hands, have a glass of red wine and put it on my turntable by myself...but i couldn't wait! :fp:
