  • Well this is my first post here after a long while of reading these boards, checking out setlists, seeing other people's stories, etc., but finally felt compelled to write after witnessing the best concerts(s) I've ever seen.

I didn't get 10c tickets for either night as they sold out so damn fast and I had to work during the pre-sale. I did have 3 friends try to get them for me but to no avail. thankfully I was off come the public sale and got them through Massey Hall online :) Happy just get a seat there, 10c or not!

I didn't think night one could be topped really. My first time at Massey Hall, a good friend in tow for her birthday present, my favourite solo artist up on stage giving it his all, and blowing me away with how powerful his voice can be by itself. The highlight of that night for me was hearing Arc for the first time live. I never thought much of the studio version of it, but seeing it live, the raw emotion, the cool looping that is used to make that song, I was just blown away. Not to mention hearing all of the Into the Wild stuff live for the first time, some amazing covers of songs I have come to adore having not previously given them a serious listen (Trouble, Long May You Run, Walking the Cow, The Seeker). Not to mention the insanely good cover of Old Man that Liam Finn did. Of course I was wrong....and the best was saved for night two, even if I heard a lil Believe You Me on night one!

Where do I begin? The speakerless effort of Liam Finn, was pure magic. I was shocked that the crowd was so dead quiet for it, and quite thankful. Believe it or not Helpless wasn't such a highlight for me, until I listened to it for the first time when I got back home. Loved the sing along at the end of that song though. Then there was Lukin, a song I never thought I'd hear acoustically save for the Benyaroya Hall release. Arc was breathtaking and tear-inducing, and I think that is fast becoming my fave live song. so much cooler to witness that live!! Old Man again by Finn but with Ed on drums. Glad he did it again, but this time with Ed :). I couldn't believe Ed pulled off a solo RITFW, on top of technical difficulties (great acapela by the crowd!), and sounded better than any PJ version I've heard to date. I loved the banter between Ed and the crowd both nights, but ya it gets tiresome, but on the other hand, it does add a lil humour to the night. Still waiting for that are wrestling match to occur! :) Also loved how Ed carried on the married woman and Elgin stories from the previous night. Shows how much he knows about his audience, and the connection he has with it. Classy, caring guy.

I've seen Pearl Jam live 10 times before, the best being the second Toronto show in 06, and this one rivals that, and in time I think it will surpass it...as long as I get a bootleg of it somewhere. An official release would be to die for :)

Thanks for the great memories Ed and thanks for letting me share some of them on this board guys! I'll try not to be such a stranger in the future!

Welcome! Love the name! Love the review!!! :)

    1. I believe the wings were a gift from another band - I can't remember the story, I'm not even sure if it was true

I'm pretty sure those wings belonged to Jimmy Frog of The Frogs.

If you don't know the Frogs, then tread lightly. Eddie's a fan, and they were an amazing live act (saw them many, many times back in the day), but they are not for everyone. I could be wrong about the wings on the stage, but this is my guess.

i live now in dartmouth, nova scotia, canada
first i need to find a job, or get a place settled in when i come to ontario.
either find a friend interested in moving in with me, or find a cheap safe place to stay, till i get settled in.

Ottawa's great too, you know! :D Not quite the excitement of Toronto, but another very beautiful city. Although we ARE getting Neil in December...to which I now possess tickets! :)

Nice meeting you in Toronto by the way. You made the preparties a blast for all! :)

Just listening to Liam Finn and I forgot how brilliant "Gather to the chapel" was done in front of the monitors.

Still one of the best shows /nights of my life.

Downloading the FLAC show this second..can't wait to listen to it!
  • My first PJ/EV experience, although I've been a fan since the beginning of PJ. I came upon the tix on ebay, paid way too much for a mom of 4, but had to do it. Drove all the way from Pennsylvania...I even took my 12 year old with me. I warned her about the language ahead of time and we looked at each other and laughed when Ed said something about "I should watch my language, there might be kids here." I was on the verge of tears the whole time. Loved the Into the Wild songs and Elderly Woman (my fave). Won't miss another tour of either.
  • Just scored this CD on good ol' ebay. Listed as pretty good quality, hard to hear Eddie speaking, sounds normal when singing. I cant wait to hear it. was at chicago night 1, pure genius!
