So last night at Massey Hall, my girlfriend and and I get to our row J balcony seats before Liam goes on and this guy Kevin who works for Eddie comes up and goes, 'would you like a seat upgrade'? At first I thought it was a scam, but after convincing me it wasn't, we were on our way up to FLOOR ROW A!!!!! When I asked him who to thank, he said that Eddie does this at certain shows. Anyways, I shook Ed's hand and was like 10-20 feet from him the whole night. I'm still in shock. The whole front row last night were these 'seat upgrades' courtesy of Eddie. So 'haha' to scalpers and stubborn ten club members who would never allow other PJ fans to get close for once. I've seen PJ 12 times and only once have I been within 100 feet of the stage. AMAZING SHOW, AMAZING SETLIST, WHAT A NIGHT!!!! THANK YOU EDDIE AND STAFF!!!

The Ed 10club seats are random, so "stubborn 10c members" can't "not allow" others to get close anyway...and the "stubborn" members aren't the ones who make the seniority rules for the PJ shows.

    Congrats on your upgrade.

Awesome. Kinda makes you wonder if anyone else would care enough to do something like this for their fans. Dude is one of a kind. No wonder why we like him so much!

Other artists have done this and similar in the past.

  • Bruce Springsteen is another artist that has employed this approach - often taking people from the very back row at shows and bringing them to the front (same thing, a 'rep' finds them before the show and brings them up there).

Bruce hasn't done it since the Rising Tour upgrading people's seats. I think that each night they do it with either Kevin or the tour manager walking around the venue and selecting people when their going to their seats. Seen it once but didn't want to say anything in Boston when a mother and son were upgraded when they were walking up the steps in to the balcony.

I don't know why they picked those people for night 2 in Boston. That front row was violent over an Eddie harmonica and picks.

This is the type of shit that only us fans end up knowing about. Ed makes it so personal. The man is the ultimate rock star. That is just so cool that I keep hearing this story over and over. Eddie = My Idol.

    Glad you enjoyed your upgrade.

As for the 'stubborn 10c members who would never allow other PJ fans to get close to the stage for once...'

I recall at Chicago I '06, my friend and I ended up with 2 extra 10C tix (9th row floor) due to two people backing out. We went to the back of the upper deck at the United Center with the intention of finding 'real' fans to give the tickets to, for free, with only two thoughts in mind: they had to be wearing shirts from a prior tour (so we knew they were fans) and they had to name the fifth song on No Code. It was easy to do, and when the guy and his girlfriend said 'Smile,' we gave them the tickets and that's exactly what they did. Oh, by the way, the guy said he was in the 10C, just got shut out for 10C tickets for that show.

This is the first time I am telling this story. I only do so because it's gets old reading negative comments like this. I enjoy bringing casual fans to shows with me so they get the experience I did and they leave bigger fans than when they walked in.

I'm glad you told your story Maverick, as the positive ones should really outnumber and outweigh the negative ones (although sometimes they don't). I gave away a pair of tickets last week in MTL and it felt really good. Good deeds like that also bring good karma, so you must have some. :)
