The evolution of betterman

I have to say that BETTERMAN has become one of my fav songs to hear live. Yea its probably the most overplayed radio song.......but....I feel the song has grown so much bigger. From the extended tags to the band jamming at the end to the sing-alongs. Its just an amazing song from conception to now.

    +1, OP! Everyone singing along, the tags, call and response at the end-just awesome! It's certainly evolved quite awesomely! And Betterman at MSG2 2010 was absolutely unforgettable.

    Crown of thorns was written by someone not in Pearl Jam, and recorded and released by a band that is not Pearl Jam. So it is a cover. Betterman was written by someone in Pearl Jam and recorded by Pearl Jam. So not a cover.

    As for betterman, I prefer 2000/2003 versions. Philly 2000 is like 10 minutes long with a complete save it for later tag. one of my favorites. Nowadays Ed doesn't sing the intro and every tag is just a couple "don't runaway"s. It's turned into more of the anthem-type song. which is fine. Just not as good IMHO

    The fact, discussed in the PJ20 book, that EV was going to give Betterman to Chrissie Hyde (sp) was stunning to me. I didn't know that, and I'm really glad it didn't happen. I also liked Brendan O'Brien's story about tanking the Hyde recording session of BM so EV would have a chance to change his mind.

    I agree - this song is much better as a sing-along anthem than it was in its original version.

    I hate hearing the start of Betterman on boots now but I love the tags at the end of it, especially when its an extended Save It For Later

    were Stone and Jeff not in MLB? Did they not have anything to do with Crown of Thorns? So in essence is that not the same argument as betterman? Ed Worte Betterman, Jeff/Stone/?? wrote crown of thorns. So technically both covers or not? COT appeared on an actual studio album released by a major label..Betterman did not.

    so either way who gives a shit?
