PJ20 "alert system"

edited August 2011 in The Porch
I was thinking recently about some of the previous festivals that I have been to and about how I would have done some things differently or regretted missing certain things while I was at another stage or getting a beer. I don't know if this is a new idea or not but what if an email list was set up to alert people if something of significance was happening on one of the stages. Such as mccready coming out to play with star anna... I don't want to say I missed that because I was getting a beer or waiting in line for the bathroom. If someone who was at the stage already when this happened could send out an email to people on a list so they could quit what they are doing and go there it would save some regret. I think this could be done with facebook. Ill be seeing star anna I was just using her as an example. Sound like a good idea?

Yes, kinda familar with twitter. Could you set it up to where any follower of a group could send a tweet?

I know someone mentioned about a month ago a PJ20 Festival app which would be a great idea. Quickly however alot of members were jumped on in the forums (myself included) about texting at concerts, filming, and all the blah blah self righteous bullshit of how we all should live in the moment and crap. If someone wants to put together an email list that would be great. What I have done is I communicate pretty closely with about ten different club members and we plan on just keeping in touch at the festival via text. If any of us see something worth noting (McCready jumping on stage using your example) we will send out a group message. I even went as far as recommending the availabilty of places to charge our devices but according to some club members it's such an outrageous and stupid idea even though they are at every airport and have been at other rock festivals in the past but I'm a kook I guess. :)

I think I would have to agree with you. We are all buying tickets to see PJ not anyone else. What is the big dael about a tweet or email so you get the full experience of pj20?

Yeah, a memebr and myself got into the whole "living in the moment at a concert" vs. texting and all this shit debate pretty good a few weeks back. When I brought up the idea of "would you rather be out in the parking lot throwing around your nerf football" or getting a text about Eddie jumping on stage with "x" I didn't get a response.

I think twitter would be easiest...and I am awaiting for my hand rip cord cell phone charger for PJ20.

Yeah I think that is for items but they have the right idea. I was thinking of when something of significance happends whoever sees it sends a message out to all members of the group to alert them.

    ah...not too hard...
    set up account
    tell everybody your handle @NameYouChoose
they sign in to follow, and sign up to get alerts via text (if they don't have auto update feeds)
you 'tweet' and your followers get the message (supposedly) all at the same time

I just haven't figured out all the #keywords
and I think I keep messing up my RT (re-tweets) when I reply to Mike or whoever

The commercial is worth the ten bucks alone. Have to love the dog burying the fish in the sand!!

The dog is the best 'actor'!
ok, found the website...it's still $10-http://www.chargerforlife.com/

shipping is $10 :x so I bought 2 chargers (one black, one clear)
I did some research: 1 minute of pulling will get you about 5 minutes of talk time-I figure it's worth $10

bought it last week...still waiting for them...

Just a reminder to those who have never been to Alpine... cell service is very very bad! If you have AT&T good luck being able to get any texts/emails/calls go thru more than 1 out of 10 tries...

Inside the actual venue is horrible, no matter which provider you have. 38k+ people in the middle of nowhere, in a valley.

At least some went through. The way some people were posting here two months ago made it sound like we would have better coverage at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Great idea, but as a longtime AT&T customer, I know that my phone will be unusable in a crowd that size. May work for other carriers, though.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
