Special Guests for PJ20?

In a recent interview Eddie said that PJ20 (PJDW) will be very similar to The Bands "Last Waltz" which included special guests Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Stephen Stills, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, and Neil Young. The PJ20 lineup is also "subject to change."

So I am sure we are all thinking who will show up to PJ20, at least I am. Here are some of the musicians I would think may be special guests or may be added to the lineup and if they have anything planned during PJDW.

Roger Daltrey: US tour starts 9/13, one week after PJDW. Good possibility.
Pete Townshend: Nothing planned. Good possibility.
Neil Young: Nothing planned. Good possibility
Chris Cornell: Nothing planned. Good possibility (Along with the rest of Soundgarden).
Jerry Cantrell: Nothing planned. Good possibility.
Dave Grohl: Will be in between Europe and U.S. leg of Foo Fighters tour, good possibility.
Marky Ramone: Nothing currently scheduled.
John Frusciante: currently working on new album, otherwise nothing planned.
Flea: RHCP album expected this summer, no chance if early fall tour coincides with release.
Bruce Springsteen: Nothing planned.
Ace Frehley: Nothing planned.
Neil Finn: Nothing planned.
Robert Plant: Nothing currently planned, but may extend current tour.
Ben Harper: On tour, no chance.
Kings of Leon: On tour, no chance.
Death Cab for Cutie: Tour ending Aug 26th, slight possibility.
Bono, The Edge (and the rest of U2): Nothing planned, slight possibility.

    And so it begins...

anyone else recall the insanity with all of the posts surrounding the 4 Philly shows? And what "special guests" would be joining the band on those nights?

if memory serves... the answer was no one. And I believe Eddie actually addressed this on one of the nights... actually made a "pancake" analogy that was pretty funny.

Bottom line... It's a Pearl Jam festival to celebrate Pearl Jam. If i were going, I would expect and HOPE for a PJ festival - nothing more, nothing less. Just saying.

yeah yeah yeah, well this time Eddie has already said that this is going to be like The Bands "Last Waltz" (like I previously mentioned) which had many special guests, and I would go even if there were no special guests. But with this being PJ20 and the rich history this band has accrued, I highly doubt it.

I agree with this, too.. it's just kinda fun to speculate...kill time (even though I should be vacuuming). I would be happy if it was just straight PJ the whole time. But if they had any of these others have appearances, it would beyond, beyond over the top (if that's possible). But really, it's whatever. I've waited 7 years to see them again, so bring it on!!! (tix, pleaseee).

I am hoping that Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate can some how make an appearance! It's been a long time since their sold out tour of New York VFW halls and fast food restaurants in 1988.
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

So, am I the only one that thinks it's a given the special guest is Soundgarden? It just makes so much sense to celebrate 20 years of PJ with members of Soundgarden, which allows them to do a Temple of the Dog set in memory of Andy Wood who technically got this whole thing started.

Ha Ha.. never thought of that!
My fanboy dreams would have the rest of Green River turn up for a short set... Chris Cornell to front a Temple of the Dog set (almost a given I'd think, considering the nostalgia involved in this event)... Paul McCartney joins them for I've Got A Feeling then an all star Rocking in the Free World to end (Young, Townsend, Plant, Grohl, etc).

I think this is all possible (even probable due to the EV reference), but some of this stuff is out of hand. I'd be shocked if Paul McCartney or Bruce Springsteen showed up. I guess maybe Daltrey or Townsend. And even more likely Neil Young who is like the godfather to them.

But, we all have to remember - the Last Waltz took place in SF, a major US city. SF is a long way from AV. I simply can't see some of these guys flying in to Chi town and driving 2 hours to pay a 10 minute tribute to a band that descended from them (or even worse - flying into Milwaukee. I could just see that).

Remember, The Band was call The Hawks b/c they backed Ronny Hawkins in 1958 (so they predated many of the acts that came to "support" them in this endeavor)! They then were recruited by Bob Dylan to play a few shows. They then played with numerous other front people and were always referred to as the band, so they took that name when they went "out on their own." So, they had actual connections all over the place to many of the guests either directly or indirectly. I love PJ, but I think we're overstating their place in all this to think Bruce Springsteen or the Beatles is showing up at their gig for 10 minutes in the middle of nowhere.

I just think logistics and reality will mean we'll see a couple of guests like Cornell, many more like people that started with them that some of you may know, but others may not and maybe 1 "Big" name like Neil, but the rest just seems unreasonable.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I'm not buying any of these yet-to-be-named special guests, but--to be fair--there is an airport very, very close to Alpine Valley: East Troy Municipal Airport.

People w/ juice like the ones you're naming can fly into just about any airport they choose.

However, I still don't think of PJ as the type to play an all-star jam set for an occasion like this. They did it once in Santa Barbara. That was cool, but here it wouldn't be so.

PJDW is about PJ. And that's what we're paying for and who we're going to all this trouble to see.
