Interesting. When are they eligible? And how would PJ be eligible in 2016?

I think it's 25 years from your first album release, but I could be wrong. I remember reading Nirvana being eligible in 2014.

One thing to consider is how connected PJ/Eddie are with the HOF. As much as they probably pissed off the Grammy folk, they've really played nice with the HOF people over the years.

First ballot? Not sure. But they definitely stand a better chance of getting in the Hall over winning a Grammy anytime soon.[/quote]

Is my math way off or what. 1991 Ten was released. 2011 is 20 years so 2016 would be 25 right?

I love some of these popular acts that people are so ready to slag off. I have an open mind towards all music, even if I think it is particularly rubbish or it means nothing to me, it doesn't mean that it's bad music or stupid. People could say that about anything, it's what it means to you personally.

Also, just because someone doesn't like Muse or any band for that matter, it doesn't mean they have PJ blinders on too. I personally don't like Muse's new stuff but that doesn't mean I'm blinded and only feeling that way because I like PJ.
I like Lady Gaga - she writes her own music, has actually faced some struggle to get where she is, has worked her ass off and also she has an amazing voice. She is dedicated to her fans, her following is just as strong as PJ fans are and I hate how popular musicians get bashed for being popular. If someone said the same thing about PJ because they were popular in the 90s would you agree?

I watch the Grammys, will watch it this year
regardless of whether PJ were there (which also doesn't mean anything. If they did/didn't attend doesn't properly represent their attitude towards it, because none of us know why they didn't. we can't just make judgements from it)

While I agree that music is a form of art, is interpretative and cannot be judged
I like the Grammys because they celebrate music - and while I despise the competition aspect - I like the blend of genres, the mixing of different styles of music, the acknowledgement of all kinds of music.

I like how some really good artists are recognised, and appreciated for their work, for their music. I think it's only fair that they get to enjoy being appreciated, enjoy the attention they get.

A way for the industry to celebrate some of the talent, to show some kind of appreciation. I know that a lot of people get missed, that in some people's opinions certain artists should have won the Grammy or shouldn't have. But again that's all interpretative, just to be nominated I think is as great an honour as actually recieving it.

This has been the case with pop music for about 50 years. It's just a case of you getting older and not liking what kids most kids like. Most of our parents hated our music, Most of your grandparents hated your parents music, etc., etc., etc.

agree with the elitist post and this post as well. pop music and even teeny bopper has it's place. if i hear or like a Katy Perry song i'm not looking to solve the world's ills i'm just trying to bounce to the beat and have a totally sunny upbeat no care in the world moment. i don't have to listen to it all the time and it doesn't have to mean i am comparing katy perry with pj. i know pop is mostly studio generated bs but it doesn't mean there isn't a place for it. it's like movies, somedays you want to watch comedies, somedays dramas and maybe even somedays chick flicks. i don't eat the same meal everyday, i don't wear the same clothes everyday so there is no need to listen to the same music and/or music type everyday. it has it's place too. and if having a justin bieber gets a kid into music at a young age what is wrong with that?

while justin bieber is a joke/just a teeny tiny teenage pop sensation in many eyes, you have to appreciate the fact that many kids listen to him, have been exposed to music (be it good or bad - that's up to you and them )
    because of him

and yeah, it's nice to hear music that's maybe not so serious, not so meaningful on some days

Good thing is that more rock and country at Grammys brought the ratings up, so they will continue with that formula in the future. That's 26 million people watching, nice exposure for the bands, and live music.

If rock gets respect from Grammys, I don't see why Pearl Jam would not attend. I don't think they care about awards, but they do care about music. I would like to see them there next year with the new album, maybe perform Off the Earth.
  • i liked that lady gagoo performance. it was a spectacle and i like spectacles

as far as pj showing up i bet they show up for their introduction to the RnR HoF and u cant have it both ways...

    1996 was 15 years ago

They have a LONG ways to go before getting into the HOF. Rush and Deep Purple aren't even in there. I love PJ but really don't see them getting in at this point. It's been said many times....outside of this board they are barely relevant anymore. They sell tickets but a lot of people don't even know they are still making new music.

they will get into the HoF the first year they are eligible
sorry you aren't a believer of that

I agree with Electrix. Nothing wrong with listening to mindless music and something that's just plain fun. Look at Dirty Frank now I know you cannot take that song seriously.

but when an entire genre is built around mindless content with no meaning, then we have a problem, that's what i meant.
