If Soundgarden toured with Pearl Jam...

...do you think Matt could play drums with both bands? By "could", I mean physically. I know he could skillz wise, but that is one heck of a physical commitment given how he attacks his instrument.

  • both bands would have to play abbreviated sets (maybe with a third band in between the two?), and with significant rests in between shows.

agreed....playing a normal length Soundgarden show and a normal length PJ show the same day would just be brutal and I would bet he would burn out on it rather quickly

if soundgarden played first then HELL NO... those songs are MONSTERS 8-)

unless maybe they take turns playing acoustic sets with light percussion... that could actually be pretty cool

Though it would be pure ecstacy for me, it would be crazy for any drummer. How about SG play one night, PJ the next with one ticket for both nights? Like that guaranteed to see both (if you can get a ticket!).

I'm sorry I read the title of the tread and I jizzed in my pants.

I like the idea of a 3rd band in between to give Matt a break ... that band would have to be Alice in Chains!

Here's another out there thought that some one was bound to mention on this thread at some point even though it really has no basis in reality .... They could tour together, Matt could play for SG then Dave A can play for PJ

I think he could do it for a tour the way PJ does it with the short legs. Just have to keep away from back to back nights. He's probably in pretty amazing shape.

There's amateur drummers that play for 4 hours or more a night.

I think he'd get more mentally exhausted than physically.

by third band in between them...do you mean someone like...oh say, temple of the dog?
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

it'd already look pretty cheesy to have two "grunge" bands on the same ticket... i wouldnt want it to turn into some lame nostalgia tour... the 3rd act would have to be something atleast a little different... maybe with some seattle tie

QOTSA, eagles of death metal, TCV, or gutter twins could all work

Maybe only for the 20th anniversary concert. And then Soundgarden would play a shorter setlist. Maybe sandwich Alice in Chains in between them too.

It would have to be like this
    Soundgarden
    Alice in chains
    Pearl Jam

That way Matt will have a long break.

Sound Jam? Wouldn't the name of that supergroup rather be "Temple of the Dog feat. special guests Kim Thayil and Ben Sheperd"? Great idea though!

I think that is a terrible idea and people need to give up on Dave Abbruzzese ever playing with Pearl Jam again. Would we only get to hear the first three records? Come on people, this band has been around for 20 years, and Dave Abbruzzese has been out of the picture for the last 16 of those 20 years.

Sorry for jumping down your throat as I am sure you weren't really serious. I am just tired of people hanging on to the long ago past when it comes to the drummer seat in this band.

I loved Jack Irons' albums, but really have no desire for him to rejoin the band for anything more than maybe a song on stage as a special guest during a concert. Matt Cameron is Pearl Jam's drummer. He is the longest tenured drummer with the band and deserves the seat for as long as PJ is a band. :)
