Ok, I know Pearl Jam already have one, but lets imagine that they were going to release another. What would you put on it? Like Rearviewmirror, you need to have an up side and a down side and you can only fit 15 songs onto each disc. Choose wisely.

I think it's fine how it is for the most part. I always thought Porch was a curious omission and maybe I'd fit Tremor Christ in there somewhere. Glorified G has oddly gained radio play on alternative stations over the past few years so maybe that could fit in as well.
2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. I think they were pretty accurate with rearviewmirror. I'm not going to take the time for my list but I think 'Why Go' should have deff been included. It gets more radio airplay in my location then half the songs on there. 'Grievance' was nominated for a grammy and wasn't included either. Also 'Tremor Christ' and 'In Hiding' charted as well. So If they were to put out another one it would basically be 90% of the same songs with WWS, Life Wasted, Love Reign Over Me, The Fixer, and Just Breathe as well. They would probably leave off some of the songs on the original to make room in the process. Then again a greatest hits is deff not for a ten clubber, just for the average radio pearl jam fan.

if they were going to release another greatest hits it would consist of songs from 2004-present.... i think. brother might be on there, but that would be the only song pre 2000.
then again, it would be the shortest greatest hits cd ever... not because they haven't released anything good since rvm, they just haven't released a lot.
who knows. i'm putting too much thought into a hypothetical situation
  • I will base it only on radio play (from what I hear in NY anyways) and will omit 'The Fixer' and 'Just Breathe' cause they still are too new. I will also omit 'Last Kiss' since it is a cover.

    Once
    Even Flow
    Alive
    Why Go
    Black
    Jeremy
    Animal
    Glorified G
    Dissident
    RVM
    Daughter
    Small town
    Corduroy
    Betterman
    Yellow Leadbetter

I would say 'Even Flow' and 'Alive' have become PJ's signature songs on the radio along with 'Betterman'.

Yeah that's pretty much it, they have so many good albums yet only the first three are played on the radio, it's a shame. Esp when all my friends who don't like pearl jam base every thing they know of pearl jam on even flow. Yeah it's a great album but they've expanded so much.

Hmm Trying to think of all the PJ songs I have actually heard on the radio in the last ten years ..... Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Black, Why Go, Once , YLB, State of Love and Trust, Animal, Go, Daughter, Dissident, Elderly Woman, Rear View Mirror, Glorified G, Not For You, Better man, Corduroy (live), Immortality, I Got Shit, Given to Fly, Wishlist, Elderly Woman (live), Last Kiss, Nothing as it Seems, Light Years, I am Mine, WWS, Love Reign Over Me, Brother, The Fixer, Just Breathe. Of course the last two thirds of my list were only about once.
  • i didnt really get why SOLAT and Breath were on there.

They could put whatever they want on it because I still won't buy it. Re-Issue albums sure, but I am not buying an album full of songs I already own.

State of Love and Trust is on the radio from time to time in different areas, It was released to radio stations to play. Breath probably was just added on because it was an often requested song.
  • hmm interesting. thanks for the replies!

The worst is when a band issues a "best of" and puts one new song on it, ONLY available on that album...

^^^I thought these things too, for a long time. I finally broke down and picked up Rearviewmirror last winter when the price was around $5 at a Wal-mart. Lo and behold there are songs on there with alternate lyrics and mixes. Hardly essential, but after thinking about it, it fits that the band would be willing to throw in some oddities to make it worthwhile. I thought it was a nice gesture.
