I’ve been out of the card game for a long time but I do know Fanatics by purchasing signed stuff (bats, jerseys, etc).

They truly have taken over the market.

    Lester

I look at the over all numbers, the 3 World Series championship teams, his post season record, and I have to agree with you.
In my eyes Lester is a Hall Of Famer.

I could see him getting in eventually, perhaps at the end of his eligibility or by the veteran's committee. There are currently six pitchers in the Hall of Fame with between 200 and 210 wins and with the recent devaluing of wins, you could make the case for 200 being the new 300.

Damn, for some reason Mel Hall was the 1st obviously non deserving ex yankee who came to mind. I have no idea why he entered my mind. And now I just did some research on him. 45 years prison for sexual assault.

Mel Hall's two most notable Yankee moments are hitting the walkoff off Jeff Reardon on Memorial Day 1991 when the Yankees spent about a month flirting with .500 before losing 91 games and in 1992 calling Bernie Williams "Mr. Zero", which obviously convinced the Yankees to get rid of him heading into the 1993 season.

The Cubs considered losing only 91 games? A step in the right direction!

He has 5 words series rings. His WAR which is a thing now is higher than Lester's. Cone didn't even make it past the first year on the ballot.

Good career on some great teams.

Numbers a lot like Wainwright and I think both are just on the outside looking in.

I think a reasonable comp for Lester is Curt Schilling.

    Schilling was 216-146 with a 3.46 ERA, 3116 Ks.
    Lester 200-1117 with a 3.66, 2488Ks

Both have 3 rings; however, Schilling is one of the greatest post season pitchers of the last quarter century.
Schilling postseason was 11-2 with a 2,23 ERA and a WS MVP
Lester postseason was 9-7 with a 2.51 ERA

Schilling is not in. Came close last year with 71.1% of votes. Early indications are he is taking a step back this year.
His politics are likely playing a role in his exclusion (which is unfortunate but reality), so were he a nice, soft-spoken individual who kept his political leanings to himself he might have made it in just barely.

To me, Schilling has a slightly better resume than Lester, therefore I don't see Lester as HOF worthy.

Baseball is the last sport to put you in the hall for championships won. Lester was consistently very good, and probably very much indeed the best FA signing of the Cubs. But is no way a hall of famer.

BA's JAWS score is my go-to:

    Hall of Fame Statistics

      Black Ink
        Pitching - 8 (383), Average HOFer ≈ 40
      Gray Ink
        Pitching - 148 (119), Average HOFer ≈ 185
      Hall of Fame Monitor
        Pitching - 98 (105), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
      Hall of Fame Standards
        Pitching - 40 (78), Average HOFer ≈ 50
      JAWS
        Starting Pitcher (149th):
          44.2 career WAR | 34.6 7yr-peak WAR | 39.4 JAWS | 39.4 S-JAWS | 3.3 WAR/162
Average HOF P (out of 66):
          73.0 career WAR | 49.8 7yr-peak WAR | 61.4 JAWS | 56.8 S-JAWS | 4.5 WAR/162

What somewhat-contemporary pitchers are probably going to the Hall?

      Kershaw
      Mad Bum
      Verlander
      Scherzer
Greinke? Kluber? Sabathia? Sale?  Then what?

They are going to have to induct somebody

Not sure about Lester...great pitcher for sure. He may get in towards the end of his eligibility, though.

kershaw (dammit!), verlander, scherzer and, I guess, greinke. maybe sabbathia. without looking at the numbers, I don't think sale.

I think MadBum’s postseason performance gives him the edge over most other borderline guys. Elevated numbers and probably the best of this generation. Win total could drag him down.

I think Bumgarner and Lester are both on the outside looking in, but MadBum is closer than Lester imo because he has the next 6, 7, 8 years to change that.
