With all the 10 year deals was there 1 or 2 WS won from them?

    Arod and Yanks.

Was Pujols in his 10yr deal on STL?
I dont remember any of the contracts for STL.

The first Arod contract was great. The 2nd was terrible.

Manny is 26, this is so much different than any contract except the first Arod one.
So out of every 10 year deal that was around only Arods produced a WS.

I do agree that they are different, yes.
I am not saying that. I am just saying you cannot compare this to anyone else's 10 year deal, except the first Arod one.   I dont know how other 10 year contracts worked out in terms of World Series but I don't really think that is fair either.

Just saw an amazing nugget.  When Machado's contract is up, he will be younger than Cano is right now.
Who is playing in their upper 30's that is still good besides Cano?

    Granderson, Kinsler, Pujols?
Good thing this contract won't pay him until he is in his upper 30's then.
It was a question you jackoff...
    lol.

I was just comparing 10 year contracts and the fact that this is a fine contract because of his age and he won't be in his up 30s
Agreed.  I said I like the 10yr deal at his and Harpers age too.

The 10yr deal in their 30's is done forever now.

Still like to know whom is still playing well in their upper 30's.  Does Miggy Cabrera fit that mold only being 35 and falling apart?
No, I don't think so.  Only offensive players?  If not, CC, Verlander...am sure there are other pitchers.  BARTOLO!

I don't think there are many offensive players though.  Steroids went a long way.
Colon is still pitching, that's right!

I just looked up players and ages and the drop off is unbelievable...

Andrew McCutcheon is only 32, Longoria is only 33.

Maybe steroids were better than I thought?!?

Both of ARod's contracts were worth more than Machado's with inflation. And considering MLB was revenue was 3 billion then compared to 10 or 11 billion now

While clearly disappointed the Yankees didn't do their thing. I F'ING LOVE THIS SIGNING.  Good for the Padres.  They have so many good players coming and just added Manny.  Look the f out!

they’ll fuck it up. didn’t they go “all in” with kemp, upton, kimbrel, sheilds, etc. a few years back? that added up to nothing.

Of the 52? players unsigned, 40? have a WAR under 1. Teams are not going to give guys 10-15 million when they can bring up a minor leaguer for the minimum.

Padres should probably go after Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez

Agreed. I don't think you can just go get one guy here and then cry poor.

I'd still like to see the Phils go after one of them as well since they've done more of an overhaul to win now and they could use a lefty in their rotation.

Edwin is another solid player yes.

Also I do argue about greenies and stuff like that but I'm beginning to see that HGH and steroids had a far greater effect.

For some it had a worse effect when not taken right though too.

This is the story of most teams, the Mets especially.  I will give them credit though that they did do some signing this off season.

As for the Padres, they have 5 years of Machado before he can opt out.  They have 5 years to bring up Gore, Urias and Tatis to help the cause.  They'll need a few more arms but it should be fun to watch if it works.

Back on the logos... there's a hidden P in the Padres' SD logo.

    I've never noticed that before!

Exactly, He is a Phillies anchor not the other way around.

He would be stuck on the team if they can't trade him should things not work out.

Wow.  Surprised by that one.  Not that $25M per year isn't an absurd amount of money, but thought he was looking for at least 30M per year....sounds like they wanted the extra 3 years there and obviously to make it the biggest contract of all time.

$25 is not a lot for them to trade if they take on half.

Look, I say good for Phils.  They have a  really exciting young team with one of the best arms in the league in Nola so I hope they do well.

It's odd that both Machado and Harper were believed to be the first $400 million players not that long ago. And both are getting less AAV than Arenado
