Radiohead 'to stop making albums'

Are you nuts? Trent and NIN are not relevant? They're as relevant and innovative as Radiohead. Nirvana and AIC are dead, so of course they're not 'relevant' in the same way as Radiohead. But both rival Radiohead's best stuff. Yeah, Radiohead tops Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins, but the latter was never that great and the former has a singer who has gone to the opposite extreme of Thom Yorke. It's not necessarily better or worse. PJ is irrelevant in terms of new music now, but as a live draw and elder statesmen, they have no peer. Nobody will look to Radiohead the way they do Bruce Springsteen or Neil Young or the Rolling Stones and now PJ. They'll look to them as a Lou Reed kind of figure... remarkable at times, but just as often missing the mark and as much about mystique as substance.

Pearl Jam only sold out a handful of their shows in 2008, and had a handful of shows didn't sell out in 2006. Pearl Jam is my favorite live act, but outside of the PJ community people aren't that excited about them anymore. At Virginia Beach, Tampa and West Palm (tour opener) you could buy Pearl Jam pavilion tickets the day of the show- Radiohead sold out those same 3 cities within hours of tickets going on sale. Radiohead played 21 cities in North America (not including Chicago) in 2008 and every single show was sold out, Pearl Jam played 12 (not including Manchester,TN) and sold out 8. Radiohead does it without even getting played or marketed on the Radio too which makes it even more impressive.

In the UK Radiohead are much better know/ better marketed, but still didn't sell out Victoria park shows as quick as Pearl Jam sells out anywhere they play here...

But since when does how popular a band are relate to how good they are?

I just don't think Pearl Jam has put out anything that good since Yield. Radiohead is still putting out good music. That's what I'm judging it on and I know it's all a matter of opinion. I still enjoy Pearl Jam and their newer albums but I'm at the point where I don't even expect their new albums to be any good- they will be better than most bands, but nothing spectacular. Radiohead on the other hand is capable of putting out some of their best work tomorrow if they release an album. I think that is what I'm basing it on. Some people say In Ranbows is one of Radiohead's best albums. If someone told you that the best Pearl Jam album is Avacado or Riot Act you would laugh in their face. That is why I say they are more talented, and are more relevant at this moment in the music world. I know it's a matter of opinion and you may disagree, but I really think that even though i love Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam just isn't exciting outside of the PJ community anymore. There isn't a huge buzz for Backspacer like there would be for a new Radiohead album. I mean I like Avacado, and Riot Act has some moments, but I can see why a casual Pearl Jam fan would not care for those two. I'm a hardcore PJ fan so I like them.

Exactly it is all opinion so you can say Radiohead are better, you just like them more..weirdly I thought Radiohead went downhill after The Bends...

PJ and Phish are my two favorite "90s" bands. Radiohead is okay, way too serious to really like them.
