yup, truly powerful song. I love the Axel rose urban legend regarding it.

I went to my first dance in grade 7, i got scared and stayed in the bathroom almost the whole night. When i finally came out, this song was playing, and i wandered around the dancefloor all alone. "It's too late, tonight..........

For some reason when I saw this thread I thought the OP was talking about U2's ONE.

I'll never forget when the video came out in my favorite format BLACK & WHITE in a warehouse with hair/long hair. Mixed in with the movie *Johnny Get Your Gun* and the one video from Justice. It was played mercilessly on Mtv and I watched as much as I could. I saw them 3 time on that tour great stuff.

I've got to post it.....Metallica's ONE

Maybe he is, for all the fuck we know. He obviously overlooked the fact that there's at least a dozen songs called "One".

Vh1's best of the 90s countdown had it as #2, right behind Smells Like Teen Spirit. It really is an amazing song.

But One came out in 1988.

    Metallica of course.
Sad video, horrible to be like that soldier.
I think the song can be a metaphor for depression or any other struggle it is that powerful.

The way lars plays this song now is so fucking cool, he might not do the double bass drum work like he used to but the rest of it is ace.
  • I would agree that the Metallica "One" is the best of all, but I do have a soft spot for the Three Dog Night song (written by Harry Nillson). U2 doesn't do much for me. I know a lot of people who were blown away by that song but to me it was ho-hum. I haven't heard any of the others. Some of them look pretty obscure. Then there is the Elton John song called "The One" that was a total barf-fest.
