Good Pop or Pop rock bands

Goo Goo Dolls

and matchbox 20.

Who else?

Come on, admit it. They may not be dylan or ed or uncle bruce, music that has some higher meaning, but as I have said, nothing beats a perfectly written and played pop song. We may not like the fact that radio plays the songs 40 times a day, but there is a reason beyond that that the melody and hook get inside your brain.

Why are some good pop or pop rock bands?

Blinky.

Counting crows.

Etc...?

    Kings of Leon

    Green Day

That's it. Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox are as the great Bill Walton would say "TERRRRRRIBLE"

Goo Goo Dolls are maybe the worst live band I've seen. They have a few decent songs through. Matchbox Twenty on the other hand were brilliant when I saw them live. I saw them at a very muddy Glastonbury back in '98 when the first album was out, Rob Thomas put so much into his performance, he sounds great live.

Anyway I would count Foo Fighters as pop rock, Everclear (back when they were still good), Feeder, Green Day, Jimmy Eat world.....I'm out......

I'm going to catch flak for this, but Foo Fighters are a VERY good pop rock band.

And I like the Goo Goo Dolls....

i was gonna say of montreal. great pop band. by your examples though i would assume you're talking about mainstream bands, and you seem to be borderlining on guilty pleasures. i'll give you matchbox 20, but like someone else said, goo goo dolls are awful. i saw them live a while ago too and it was one of the worst shows i've ever seen.

how about third eye blind, i always dug that band. red hot chili peppers are probably the best if they count.

+1 on Hootie. Let Her Cry was an amazing song!

I wouldn't consider most of what bands have been listed as pop rock, but I guess everyone has their own interpretation. These are mine, based on acts still playing:

    John Mellencamp
    Crowded House
    Better than Ezra
    Chris Isaak

There are a ton of others that you could argue fit into this genre or that, but I think it's hard to dispute these.

I think you'll only catch flak for thinking the Foo Fighters are a "pop rock" band ;) Have you seen the FF live? I don't know of many pop rock singers that scream quite as much as Dave Grohl, plus he was in Nirvana so that automatically takes him out of the running.

Foo Fighters are a very good/great rock band :)

A few of these I love, a few make me crank the radio but do little else.
    Counting Crows
INXS (not counting that reality show remake)
Fountains of Wayne - Hackensack is one undeniable song.
10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant - I think they're both great/transcendent at times, but I think most people put them in the general pop/rock category.
    Old 97's/Rhett Miller
    Live
    The Pretenders

No, I LOVE the Foo Fighters, and know people around here do too! I saw them from front row centre on their latest tour! A lot of their songs ARE pop songs (Times Like These, Breakout, Learn To Fly), and damn good ones at that!

I'm so laughing at this thread. :D

For my embarressment: I've seen live on this list:

    3EB (Twice)
    Goo Goo Dolls (twice)
    Better than ezra
    Sugar ray

Foo fighters are not pop rock, some videos may have been cheesy, but they are a damn good rock show!

Also, the bands I listed, all have good songs and their shows were fun back in the day when they were all really popular.

There's nothing wrong with seeing BTE. They put on a great live show and put out great records.
