and Led Zeppelin, for that matter. Phonetics weren't kind to him.

I don't think the Who belong on that list. I think they're incredible overrated. They made one consistent album (Who's Next) and a great live album (Leeds). Other than that, all they can claim is two bloated and self-indulgently pretentious rock operas (Tommy and Quadrophenia) and a ton of crappy, uneven albums that had a few good singles.

I think the same can be said about Pink Floyd :?

Don't get me wrong, I really like PF. I actually listened to them obsessively in my early teens before moving onto LZ (which is #1 on my list, but I listen to PJ and pretty much every other band far more often nowadays).

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967)
    A Saucerful of Secrets (1968)
Soundtrack from the Film More (1969)
    Ummagumma (1969)
    Atom Heart Mother (1970)
    Meddle (1971)
    Obscured by Clouds (1972)
The Dark Side of the Moon (1973)
    Wish You Were Here (1975)
    Animals (1977)
    The Wall (1979)
    The Final Cut (1983)
A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987)
    The Division Bell (1994)

With the exception of DSOTM which is good but I don't really consider "rock" in the sense that PJ or Zeppelin are rock, Wish You Were Here of which the title song is one of the best songs ever, and about half of The Wall (ok, maybe a little more than 1/2) the rest of their albums pretty much sucked give or take a song or two (if that in most cases).

Zeppelin had a far more consistent string of good music from the Zeppelin I through Physical Graffiti. They only really waned near the end. But Achilles Last Stand, All My Love, In The Evening and Fool in the Rain are still far better songs on their own than any of Pink Floyd's one or maybe two good songs on each of their non-shitty albums.

And some people think Riot Act and Avocado are amazing... :?

Honestly though, One of These Days is a great song--the rest I could care less to listen to. I'm not saying they're horrible albums but there are far better bands out there that have put out significantly more great music than Pink Floyd.

I think they were very different and have been influential to many musicians over the years and because of that they have become overrated.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion :)

Oh and I think RA is underrated and self titled is slightly overrated (certain songs)...neither are "amazing" albums though. Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, No Code, Binaural and Yield however are (except God's Dice...blech!). ;)

Whaaa?! Gods' Dice? Not to shabby of a rocker if you ask me. If God's Dice and Evacuation were to get in a round of fisticuffs...well, let's just say that Evacuation would be doing...just that.

  • i love the people who say the beatles arent the best band ever. Its like they are just being contrarian.

Even if you dont enjoy their music, their influence and impact on the bands that have been formed post 1960, is pretty immense and staggering.

If anything the beatles are way underrated.

Meddle-The Wall are AMAZING albums. You're drastically underrating them, I think. They cover all kinds of styles. They're funky, spacy, and there are times where they just flat out rock(Young Lust, The Gold It's In......, Have a Cigar).
