Has anyone gone to any of the shows so far? Anyone planning on going to the upcoming shows? I'm going to the show in Manchester NH on 8/2. They're my favorite band besides PJ, and I saw them in 2007 for the first time and it was AMAZING. I'm a little concerned because the standard setlist is pretty much the exact same as in '07, plus Ænema and minus Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days. Hell, they didn't even play Ænema at the first two shows.

Regardless I'm pumped I was just wondering if anyone had any feedback or wanted to discuss. :)

Very disappointed in the setlists, they're not mixing it up at all.

If you saw them on their previous tour, there's really no need to see them again unless you're a die-hard fan of the band.

I loved Tool more than just about anybody, but THAT set, the way they halfassed the last leg of their tour really soured me on them. I was bored to tears the 2nd time on the tour and it was almost a full year later.

It does seem to get old fast...i went to the mansfield, MA show in '07 and they actually played Pushit as well...i think it was the only time they deviated from/added to that setlist for that entire ginormous tour. plus made me feel just a little special :D

I would have loved to get Pushit, but I think they were alternating between that and Right In Two when I caught them in 07. Prolly afraid to play those 2 in the same show since they're absurdly similar.

The first time I seen them was right after Lateralus came out and they came out and completely smashed my face. AMAZING set. Caught them again later and it was pretty good as well, but a little more toward the artsy material.

Chicago in 06 was a pretty badass show. That first leg had The Pot and Aenima played which really pushed it to a solid set. When they cut it back it became alot more average, imo.

They're a different band now. They seem to be aware of their popularity now.

i absolutely would have loved to see them a few years earlier..esp. on the lateralus tour. being able to see the grudge, the patient, and disposition/reflection/triad all in one show might have literally blown by head off though.

I was at the San Antonio show on Friday; not only was it mind-blowing, but it more-or-less redeemed Tool in my eyes (I was pretty let down the last time I saw them). I didn't know the setlist going in, which helped (and which made "Flood" an absolute shock), but even if I did I still don't think I could've been disappointed. Basically, as long as they play "Forty-Six & 2" and "Lateralus," any Tool show should be passable; this was easily the best version of "Lateralus" I've heard (I consider that song to be Tool's unequivocal masterpiece).

FWIW, Danny Carey wore a full San Antonio Spurs uniform and left the stage flashing hook 'em horns at the floor.

Please post here how the show was on the 2nd. I've got 4th row center tix for the 7th and I'm expecting to be blown away based on the '06 tour. That show in Columbus. Ohio was great. I know better than to expect a varied setlist. If you want to see reviews of their tour so far, go here: http://toolshed.down.net/tour/

You can find show attendees who post reviews on their take on the concert. Let me know how your night goes!

I will definitely post how the show goes...i'm not hard to please so it should be enjoyable no matter what.

You're right...the toolshed.down.net site (the "official unofficial" website of the band) is a good resource...i've been following the reviews of every show of this tour.

Just wanted to check in with the good people in this forum because I know I can trust the opinions of fellow ten clubbers better than anyone! :)

I'm seeing Tool for the first time ever on Saturday. I don't like how they play the same setlist all the time but I guess it doesn't matter since I never saw any of their songs live. The best part is that they come on right after My Bloody Valentine- what a one, two punch!

You would think that bands would play longer sets after releasing more material to add to their live repertoire, but it sadly isn't always the case.

Alot of venues and even local city ordinances require a concert to end at a set time in the evening. At Riverbend Music Center outside of Cincinnati, the limit a concert can go to is 11 pm, then fines are issued to the band themselves.

this has nothing to do with cerfew, and everything to do with tool playing sets that are 1 hour shorter than they used to be :o

if they play longer, start earlier

This is disappointing. They're such an awesome band, I wish they would mix it up more now. It's not like they are really even promoting 10,000 Days anymore. They don't even have to change the setlist every night-- why not just play a different set than where they left off in '07? It appears that they're playing the list from '07, MINUS a few songs... Why would I ever buy tickets to see a lesser version of a show I've seen already?

me, too! '07 was the first Tool show for me and i wish they had played more from Lateralus, it was still a great show, though. i have a boot from Lateralus and they are just amazing, the patient, schism, the grudge, and parabol/s sounded, to me, much better than the album versions. Lateralus and disposition/reflection/triad all sound great, too.

in fact i may have to listen to that today

i considered going to 1 of the shows this small tour but by the time i found out about it and ticket masters fees i'd be spending a little over $70 for 1 ticket in the nosebleed section and having to drive a at least 2 hours for it. i don't mind driving for shows but not for those seats!

I've caught 12 TOOL shows over the years. The 2001/2002 shows where just amazing. The 2006 shows. They were great.....not amazing. I've seen them enough to realize that when they tour , 1-2 times a tour is enough. And this time out it seems to be the same tour as 2 years ago. I didn't even try to get tickets. i'm gonna wait for a new album. Then they'll make some changes to the set. But if you have never seen them before ....and your a fan....you should go for sure.

TOOL is like going to the circus. It's the same show every night. The first time is thrilling. The second time you might pick up something you missed the time before. And after that ......you've seen it. Wait for a new album.

Yeah, well, the problem with that is that it takes them six years to make a record.

I'm seeing them in Manch this Sunday as well. Right in my backyard, so despite the standard setlist it will be fun. I still have no idea how Manchester snuck in as a venue on such a short tour. This will be my 7th Tool show and they are always intense. The show in 02 in Augusta in a venue the size of a high school gym comes to mind.
I told myself I wasn't going to check setlists before the show, but of course ended up taking a look. It's disappointing that they haven't mixed up the set, but the talent on stage at a Tool show is worth it.

  • caught their Dallas show on 07-25-09

went in knowing what the setlist would be. i just looked at it like this,

a really kick ass band i love is coming to my town to play a show. small venue at that. it will be loud. the visuals will be stunning. i'll be in a seat right behind the pit (closest i have been since i saw them EXACTLY eleven years earlier on 07-25-98 in st.louis).

basically went in to have a good time. drank a few beers and rocked out. hell, it is worth going just to watch danny play. need proof? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVbFrl9wLBA
