iPod help

Does anyone know of an easy and efficient way of transferring my iPod music files to my new computer? My old computer has crashed, and I'd like to get all my songs off my iPod. I can't find any clear instructions. Also, when I got to open my iPod in My Computer (PC), the music file does not show up so I can "drag" it to my computer (the files are there however on my iPod). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

you can't go from ipod to computer unless you download some bootleg program off the internet.

  • not positive, but I'd guess you would need to go to itunes.com and re-open or get an account to synch your ipod to your itunes on your new computer unless your ipod isn't a "real" ipod compatible with itunes. Sorry if that didn't help!

That's not the answer I was looking for ;)! Any easy to use program suggestions? I just don't want to end up corrupting my iPod.

I've never tried it, but i'm sure someone on here knows of a safe, easy to use/download program that will allow it. If you wait long enough for a response.

my solution would be to buy an external hardrive to carry all your music. But that doesn't get you out of your current situation.

I have never had to do this, thankfully, but here is an in depth article all about copying music from your iPod to your computer. Page 3 lists some 3rd party software that is out there.

I downloaded SharePod, based on the article you suggested. I ended up with some double copies of files, but I can't complain. Thanks a lot man, I appreciate the help.

I'd say best bet is to try and email Itunes support.

I haven't had to do this yet (yet being the key word ). when you connect the device, it should say found new software or something like that. My comp also says my ipod appears to be corrupted sometimes but other times it's fine and other times it's name and either way it's fine. I have a compaq presario.

If you backed up all your itunes purchases on discs, you may be able to rip all the disc (physical cds you have included) and just unplug your ipod and maybe completely reformat it.

Honestly though if in doubt, I'd go with itunes support.

    Hope this helps bro.

I tried iTunes support. They basically told me that I could only transfer purchases from my iPod back to my computer, via my iTunes account. It's BS. The songs I have on my iPod belong to me, and I put them on there legally. SharePod works great.

You are very welcome and I am glad you were able to recover your tunes. I imagine you will have some cleaning up to do in iTunes with the duplicates but double is better than none.

I'm glad sharepod worked for you. That's great info to know so that when I have to transfer files I'll have an idea of how to do it.

The one problem I have with itunes is that some of the songs I purchased through Itunes cannot be copied to a physical disc. That is BS. I paid my.99 cents for the track. Weird thing is one of these was a black crowes song (think it was greasy grass river). I have other songs bought from Itunes that did automatically tranfer over to my zune and was able to back them up on cd-rs.
I guess certain tracks must just be sold exclusively to itunes through the use of the purchaser's account.

Glad you got your situation worked out :D
