I'm very happy about this but I of course would rather it have been Pearl Jam.

Haha. I would have loved to see the Beastie Boys but I think Goldenvoice did a great job getting such a high caliber performer so fast.

I'd much rather see the Beastie Boys but it is impressive they got Jay-Z (it will be his first U.S. festival appearance). He's also from NYC, so that obviously helps him with that crowd.

this is going to be very interesting. last year, not to sound racist or anything, but there were literally no african americans at the festival. i know jay-z has a prominently large african-american fan base, but also a few white fans. but i do not expect many of his biggest fan base to be there, as most people there will/would have been there for the beastie boys.

other than that i think it's a pretty cool decision. it looks like this festival is going to be one of the big name festivals soon.

Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

It seems like it will be a lot better than last year so if they make another big jump for next year's I see it becoming huge too. Right now I think it's big but only because I live in NYC, hopefully one day it will be looked at as in the same level of lolla, coachella, etc.

yeah i think that since this being the closest festival to NYC, it definitely has potential. but i mean look at the headliners last year; radiohead is huge, but they had to get them to play two nights probably because they couldn't find anyone else. and no offense to him or anything, he's great and all, but jack johnson is not really festival headlining material. this year however, beastie boys/jay-z, tool, and coldplay! i mean that's a pretty reputable headlining group to me. i think the festival will however remain to feature some less known, low-key bands to support, such as arctic monkeys, black keys, mgmt, vampire weekend, etc..

I love all 4 of those supporting bands! I bet MGMT and Vampire Weekend are bigger in NYC than anywhere else too. Now hopefully the set times will look good.

Gathering of the Vibes in Bridgeport, CT is pretty close to NYC tho i guess it's more a jam band platform...it rained all night last night tho i bet it was cool to listen to The Machine (Best Pink Floyd tribute band period) during their 1am - 3am slot if it happened
