I am a drummer, I have been playing for 15+ years, studied and graduated from Berklee College of Music with a drumset performance degree...
Matt's drums are currently sounded crisp as ever. There is a great tone he is getting (judging from Conan and Fixer) from his new Oak kit. Not only that, but his playing is classic Cameron on The fixer, the way he swings on the beat is something not many guys can do. Listen to how he rides the main riff, it kind of sways in a certain way...
Still my favorite drummer in rock, probably one of the greatest rock drummers to ever play the drums.

He couldnt hold Keith Moon's jock

Do i hear that the snare is sounding flatter and less echoey, like the ayotte kit on the 00 tour?

why would he want to do that?

keith moon had no idea what he was doing, just came out pretty damn good.

I dont understand the facination with the 00 tour. If anything the 06 and 03 boots have more sound. The 2000 boots sound very small, yea I know what your talking about with that "ring on the snare" but those ayottes sounded like they were on their way out.

Oh whatever...! I'm a big fan of Keith Moon (grew up with him as an hero when I was playing drums) and The Who but at the end, drugs and alcool really got into him and he couldn't keep it up.

Matt Cameron's in his late(?) 40's and his still able to keep it up and play like a mofo!!!! To come back to the main title, you're totally right. It's actually one of the first thing I noticed from both songs; the sound and how well he plays on them. Not trying to push it too much. Loved him in Soundgarden, love him in Pearl Jam. KEEP IT UP MATT!!!!!!!!

yeah, the negative "Matt's Crappy drum sound" is sooooo much better

so we are on a PJ board, its okay for countless negative threads about the band we all claim to love.

but a positive thread about the band gets  at ?

    wow.

Matt Cameron is a MACHINE!! Lots of stamina!

...but on a ton of the songs he plays on with PJ from the first half of PJ's career, he sounds like a machine with VERY uninspired playing, with rare cymbals, and little groove. The few times he hits crash cymbals he does it odd-timed, like a one-trick-pony.

Myself being a drummer for a quarter-of-a-century, I know he's got a ton of talent. I'm glad HIS style is directing the newer albums into territory he's better at.

MC - Keep it up!! But let's please cut out the early 1/2 of the PJ catalog.

Uninspired? I don't know about that. Just cause he doesn't bash around like Dave. A (which was cool) doesn't mean he's not giving a different kind of life to the songs.. I hear it.

    Fair enough.

It seems uninspired to me, but to others, they may love it.

I've heard some people on this board prefer the demo version of SOLAT, which to me is also very boring and uninspired compared to the version which was released, and while I used to love collecting boots of PJ in 92, 93 and 94, as 95, 96 and 97 went on, the versions of songs became so different, they no longer hold a candle to the energy and ferocity of what they used to be.

And I wouldn't say dave was a basher. Sure, he bashed at times. He was also extremely intricate on the rudiments (but there's no negative connotation if saying someone was "intricate on rudiments", like there is with "bashing"). Matt kinda just plays a lot of early material just in the middle - no rudiments, little cymbal hits and very dry (except Blood, where Matt just bashes as though he's playing another song in his head).

I've heard the same comments from friends who are casual fans tell me the same thing, as well as myself who has covered PJ songs on my drumkit since 1992.

I am a drummer, I have been playing for 15+ years, studied and graduated from Berklee College of Music with a drumset performance degree...
Matt's drums are currently sounding crisp as ever (on record). There is a great tone he is getting (judging from Conan and Fixer) from his new Oak kit. Not only that, but his playing is classic Cameron on The fixer, the way he swings on the beat is something not many guys can do. Listen to how he rides the main riff, it kind of sways in a certain way...
Still my favorite drummer in rock, probably one of the greatest rock drummers to ever play the drums.

cool---my wife went to Berklee. 8-)

i agree about his current drum sound...he sounds awesome.
    I LOVE MUSIC.

yeah, the negative "Matt's Crappy drum sound" is sooooo much better

so we are on a PJ board, its okay for countless negative threads about the band we all claim to love.

but a positive thread about the band gets  at ?

    wow.

Or, you could discuss th epositives and the negatives in the SAME thread.

You start threads with questions that take two seconds to answer and you have a problem with this one?

You jump into threads starting trouble, and called me a douche bag for making a telephone call to a box office, when I confirmed Philly. I see you for what you are. You sir are a troll.

Anyone who wants some entertainment, read these 4 pages of SolarWorld getting upset with the confirmation of Philly, and other board members putting him back in his place:

I think Matt is one of the best drummers out there, but I don't think he's the best fit for the band. I think he's just too...umm, precise.
I used to hate Jack Irons, but now I can see how he was a better fit than Matt.
Whatever the case maybe, there is no one like Dave A.

This is my kind of thread. Matt is fucking amazing. I dont get the whole precise playing thing though.I think he plays pretty sloppy and changes things up all the time. That to me, is why hes perfect for the band because TBH pearl jam is pretty sloppy live. I mean sloppy in a good way, thats what makes them so special.

Oh and BTW im making a video on my computer showing all of the sick Matt performances from random PJ bootlegs. Ill upload it on youtube. Its basically a video to make all the haters shut the fuck up and realize Dave A quit years ago. Nothing against Dave A.
