The "new" PJ is wonderful

is a PJ I love. There's still the rock and the edge, but there's also hope and a new sense of freedom. You can hear it in "The Fixer" and the live version of "Got Some." It's in the lyrics. It's in the music. And it captures what it's like to be alive in 2009.

This quote from McCready's San Diego radio interview says it all:

"We certainly get angry about certain things still. But you can only have anger for so long until you do something positive with it. Or you just stay angry and be miserable."

PJ has taken a new road. One they've been moving toward for years, and they've finally found it.

Some fans seem to need the band to be dark/angry/etc., as if PJ represents their own free version of therapy. But the band has always represented hope and self-will and personal freedom. "Don't Give Up."

I know some people will never come around to hearing how awesome the new songs are. But hopefully some of the haters will at least open their minds. Crank "The Fixer" on the 10c page and hear just how great and cool and rocking and moving the song is. There's not another song like it or "Got Some" around today. And with a full new LP, possible EP and a new tour on the horizon, I am f'n pumped.

    Quote should read:

"We certainly get angry about certain things still. But you can only have anger for so long until you do something positive with it. Or you just stay angry and be miserable.....And write killer songs"

I entirely agree BRY. We change, they change, they can't keep repeating an emotion that no longer exists. Dissident was my anthem in 93 with its fucked up on the edge defiance and I've often been in sync with this band since; present tense kept me alive in 96 in fragile trembling acceptance, faithful was a true companion from 98, I am Mine seemed the completion of this chapter. The Fixer is where I'm at in the summer of 2009, joyous, simple, happy, powerful. And we've fucking earned it.

I don't think PJ really need anything much from the public at all and more, this is about where they are at, not what they are trying to recoup. They always give us a snapshot of where they are at right now. So this is the sound of ed centred, complete, frivolous? It's great to hear! enjoy while it lasts, I played the fixer 6 times in a row today driving across the County. The thrill in the voice hit me where it always does. refreshes the parts that others can't reach - this simple statement of hope isn't coming from no new kids on the block remember.

'fight to get it back again'. That is precisely the sound of recovery and survival when you've made it safely to the other side and can finally trust in your abilities. Relaxed. For those who aren't appreciating this sentiment right now, all I say is don't burn the bridges too hastily, you may yet need them! Pearl Jam are growing with us over a 20 year period, they aren't just a 3 year year back catalogue to plunder and toss away with the wrapper when the flavour doesn't suit the moment! :)

"Rock and roll has always been this joy, this certain happiness that is in its way the most beautiful thing in life. But rock is also about hardness and coldness and being alone ... I finally got to the place where I realized life had paradoxes, a lot of them, and you've got to live with them."
