im really worried and confused at the activity around here lately ....

um... hello... are you not hearing the awesomeness of the guitars in here???? omg its fucking brilliant...
and im not sure why ppl are saying its poppy - i totally disagree. its more thick punk than poppy

turn it up people and let go - its a rocker and a half!!!!!!!!!!!!!
simple - it just fucking rocks and eddie's digging it - its certainly a song to turn up loud on your way to the beach. .. omg i can hear it now - coming out of my speakers blasting - i love the thick stone riff in the chorus - amazing

Nice to have you back on the boards, Matt Cameron. ;)
  • Yeah, it's really poppy... but some of it is good. That's something, isn't it?? :?

Our local radio station has made a meal of PJ and has played the new single about 7 times today. Now we have the pleasure of hearing 5 of their "most popular" songs in a row. They have rambled on and on about PJ for a good part of the day, getting people to ring up and give their opinion on the new single. We are going to be hearing this single a lot, not like WWS which we never heard at all.

One of my local stations played it at least four times today. DJ hinted at a rumored show too. The Fixer is gonna fix things around here.

Just listened to Fixer for first time after reading some of this chatter. Was pretty uninspired by the last album so not been taking much notice of the new releases yet.

People the Fixer is the most refreshing thing PJ have put out for years!! They are really showing some of their other influences here I think - I can hear Buzzcocks, Elvis Costello, Undertones, there's definitely a British indie-pop tinge to the guitars and melody.

Lots of PJ's influences have favoured catchy hooks and melody over heavy rock bombast. The La's are pure indie pop, gorgeous sounds, Buzzcocks always favoured a catchy pop approach to punk. The ramones were full of sweet melody. Dinosaur Jnr, Sonic Youth, all those guys know the importance of catchy tunes.

OK, there's a classic rock FM tinge to the vocals, but again, this is refreshing. Simple joy! Ed sounds laid back, pretty dammed mellow and happy. I've been wondering how long he can sustain all his angst and anger and still remain true.

Love it! Will look into the lyrics as I blast it out in the summer sunshine and report back. Don't mistake a throwaway catchy hook for superficiality tho. PEarl Jam don't do lightweight. Fight to get it back again. Indeed. Whatever it is, its sounds like hope. The inspired feelings I get are just the same as hearing Dissident over the radio lying in bed with the dawn leaking over our covers on a Sunday morning way back when. PJ on the radio again, now there's a thought.

Hope there's more like this on Backspacer!

Thanks guys, you rarely let me down.

The holiday single was just a taste.

Everything else you wrote was cool too :). I like this Pearl Jam.
