raise your hand! I'm one for sure...Fixer doesn't quite wow me like Got Some did.

Yeah I'm waiting with ya. I just don't get this choice. But historically, the singles off of the PJ albums have not been the best songs on the albums at all.

Got Some IS NOT catchy enough.. it took me a few dozen listens to get into it and I'm a diehard Pearl Jam fan who likes anything they put out. The average radio listener wouldn't give it a second chance.. The Fixer is listenable on the first listen to a non-fan.

I'll respectfully disagree..while I hear your point about how The Fixer is more generic and listenable to a non-fan, Got Some represents the band better I think, and I find that chorus pretty catchy actually.

You know, bands usually release more than one single from an album. And with Pearl Jam, some of their biggest hits were never singles anyway! (Such as "Better Man" and "Yellow Ledbetter")

"The Fixer" is catchier, and as such it will generate more plays on the radio, thus appealing more to possible new fans of the band, while creating hype for the upcoming record. Picking singles has to be rather strategic.

Exactly...I think that's why it's the single, not because it's a better song, but because it's different from past PJ songs and will generate more interest.

Why does something have to be catchy to be a single? What's catchy about any of the bands that rule the rock charts nowadays (i.e. Godsmack, Disturbed, or Chevelle) anyways?

I don't know if it makes much of a difference, I have had quite a few "non PJ fan" friends of mine tell me they like it so far. Not sure if Got Some would have made any more of an impact thpough.

Personally I think The End and Unthought Known are two of Ed's best written PJ songs in a long, long time, and I can't wait to hear the full band versions. Don't know if they would have been better singles or not, just going by when I heard them solo.

  • what is catchy? i keep hearing how catchy it is, but i dont get it. is it how much it sticks in you head? i admit it definitely sticks in mine, but its irritating! its so repetitive it drills into your skull! Its like turning on an adult contemporary station and hearing a Journey or Bon Jovi song or something. sure, it sticks in my head all day, but i dont want it too!

I like Got Some better too, but I guess it comes down to how the studio cut sounds.. I think the band wants to grab a lot of attention and The Fixer is probably the better way to do it I think.

Remember guys, they don't release songs on the radio to get OUR (tenclub/message pit peeps) attention. We're gonna buy the album regardless. They want to get the attention of the average radio listener. Got Some might have made US (some of us) happy, and still may be the 2nd single, but it wouldn't have been logical on their part.
"Well, I think this band is incapable of sucking."

Yeah, I think Unthought Known is my favorite so far, really looking forward to hearing it on the album.
