Ed has been quoted semi-recently as saying that youth is, unfortunately, wasted on the young...
he's with a model now (so what?)
He is in a tough boat (or at least was when everything really exploded in the early 90's)
Being held to 18 year old ideals and ideas can be taxing for anyone...I sure as hell wouldn't want to be held to something I said twenty years ago!

Ok, well last night was the first show of their tour and after the introduction of the band was done Jerry said "and WE ARE ALICE IN CHAINS"
So your wrong again becuase it's Jerry's band more than it will ever be yours, so what he says goes i think. Just open your mind and stop being just so.....erm.... stupid?
Keep your opinion, I'll keep mine.......
You ever seen the original line-up?
I have.
No i havent, i was too young. I'm glad to see 3/4 of them. It doesn't hurt me in one way that they are making new music and touring etc i don't loose 1 thing out of it.
But lucky you. What date? could maybe find a bootleg for you.

i dont think anyone is holding him to something he said 18 years ago. at least i wont do that. people grow up and change. i know i have. but writing a song or even tweaking it for a commercial is something that this band nor MOST bands would never do IMHO.
all i know is that my band would have strung me up if i had even thought about something like that, and the people in my band were attenion whores. lol. well , two of them were anyway.
Peace, Love.

lots of bands/musicians sell their songs to TV shows and commercials willingly......just took PJ a long time to succumb...and it's alright by me

this is waaaay different. they are not selling their music to a tv show or even target. they made a promo commercial to sell THEIR OWN music through target. big big differnce. so they did not "succumb" to anything.
Peace, Love.

I understand what the OP is saying. It is possible that they had numerous songs they wrote and recorded and Fixer was going to be like a B-side and then target came along. Maybe they breathed some life into the song to be that poppy well received song to sell to the masses instead of one that they really felt strongly about. We won't know until the album comes out but all the other songs that we have heard from Conan or Eds solo shows don't sound so poppy and glossed over.
The Fixer will grow on us all and come a live show we will leave with a new appreciation for it, I am sure of that. Anyway have fun with it .
IMO it's a great song. I love it. It's catchy as hell without being corny. I love the direction they're going. If you love melody, than you love this song.
My sole criticism is that it's missing a McCready solo at the end where there is a fade-out.
Can't wait to get the vinyl!

you think pearl jam sat down and wrote a song for a target commercial are you out of your mind?
hahahah thats a funnny image though

oh yeah dont worry im not angry or anything, i just still dont think they wrote a poppy song just for target, i mean this is pearl jam!! Satans Bed is about heiresses being stuck up, not for you is about the music being for the fans and not the record company, corduroy is about ed's jacket he got for a fiver and they were selling for over 100 dollars after the "grunge Explosion" i just dont see them complying like that i think the whole album will be alot more poppy than people are expecting
I think the general souce of discontent is that the band has given the impression that they're evolving away from these stances....
They (well, Ed anyway) intentionally avoided radio-friendly music for years...this single seems to have caved a bit.
Your interpretation of Not For You is closely related to why people are upset with the Target deal. Your interpretation of Corduroy plays into that as well (tho, thankfully, the band hasn't gone a complete 180 Chris Cornell style and started pitchin jeans)...and Satan's Bed? About heiresses? Or models? We all know how well the lines about models hold up as an idealist statement from Ed these days...
Those songs are 15 years old now...Good or bad...they've changed.
edit: man you guys are fast...I took a quick call while writing this and ended up a page past the post I was responding too
but they didnt write it for target or the commercial. they wrote the song, recorded the album signed a deal with target and DECIDED to play that song for the commercial.
how anyone can take away from that that they wrote and recorded a song FOR the target commercial is beyond me. really.
Peace, Love.

what? Cold Case ? that in my opinion is not much different than having one of thier songs in / on a movie soundtrack.
its not like Cold Case opens every week with "Alive" as its theme song. the songs were used to help tell a story. again, to me that is way different.

And, no, I'm not even being sarcastic! (Really!)
And again, I am not saying the song was specifically written just for the TARGET deal, merely made to fit it....
