Now......if only they would get rid of seniority COMPLETELY!
thank god for europe's general admission shows, where a pair of good sneakers carries you wherever you want to stand...I've always wondered who makes the decision to put chairs on the floor of a rock concert? the band, or the organizers?...probably lawyers

now, now...let's not go down EITHER of those roads.....the no seniorty or the GA vs. seats......this is meant to be a HAPPY thread!
personally, i see the pros and cons of seniority, random lottery, GA shows, assigned space/seats......as long as pearl jam keeps on touring, i am THERE...under any of the above scenarios!
For sound quality, and really great view points, I think row 5 and 6 are the BEST rows by far. Row 1 does not have the appeal to me that it has to most of you. Not that I would complain in the least if i got row 1 - i am just saying that from experience, the sound is better a few rows back.
That is totally true since 2000 my seats have allways been 1st or 2nd row, in 08 with lottery in place i had 3rd & 4th row no biggie but the sound quality was way better 3rd & 4th row so yeah i really don't mind with 3rd or 4th row at all. but then again MSG 03 being 1st row for those shows will never be topped for me at least ....
I should probably know this, but how does one know if they got a lottery ticket? Is it a different colour like gold?
i think you know b/c you are sitting in a row that normally you would NEVER get!
that's pretty much it, nothing else looks *special* about the tickets. rows 1, 2, 9 and 10 are the *lucky lottery* rows. if you get a seat in any of those rows....you won the lottery. that simple.
although i love the lottery and it would be cool to "win", am i crazy that i'm just happy to be in the building hearing some of the greatest music ever made? i don't think that getting ed's sweat on me is going to enhance that
I don't think you're crazy.
Two of my favorite shows were enjoyed via Ticketmaster seats.
Agree. My favorite show I've been to was in 2000. I got my tickets through 10c and found out the day before the concert 2 of my best friends (who were supposed to be out of town) were going to be there for the show and managed to get a couple lawn tickets. I got in line, got my tickets which turned out to be pretty good and then walked around a bit until I found someone who had good energy and was pumped for the show but had lawn tickets and I swapped them. I watched from the lawn with my best friends and had the best time at any concert I've ever been too! I'm just glad to be in there!

whatdaya mean, it'll never apply to you? are you not a 10c member? or do plan on never seeing pj live again? seriously. i don't get it. the lottery will apply to EVERYone, every 10c member, in attendance at any show. and coolness for you for getting front row 3x, and once in front of everyone - nice! since you evidently read my every post ...i assume you've seen....i'm just awaiting my "ed time" to hit that trifecta. would be cool to do so via the lottery, but if not.....i hope someday i can manage it at a GA show. tho, honestly, i just keep getting older....and there are so many younger/faster 10clubbers....and/or those with 'friends' who hold them spots.....so yea....i might have a better shot with the lottery.
bottomline, you are correct. obviously it's what the band wants. it personally makes me happy that the band wants it, for all the reasons i've already shared. none of us we're ever promised anything beyond 'a chance at tickets'.....so anything else we get is pure icing!
*edit - duh! you're posting on this board, so of COURSe you're a 10c member! so yea..i just don't know what you mean........ :?
what i mean is certain 10C numbers will simply not come into play during the lottery, it's as simple as that. the lottery is about rewarding fans who otherwise wouldn't have had a chance to get as close as rows 1-2 and 9-10, so why would they bother including those who naturally are that close anyway? i had no idea you're awaiting your "Ed time" (as i don't follow your posts, just your spacing lol), so good luck with that,...

I get the impression that most of you figure that those of us with higher numbers are able to see the band all the time.
I wasn't able to use my ticket privileges until 11 years after I joined (when I was 12 years old; first was able to use 10C for tickets in 2005). 9th row is a nice place to start, and I was hoping that maybe I'd get to the first row eventually, maybe even the next time they came to Vancouver so long as a Seattle gig was also announced (lots of PacNW'ers at the Vancouver '05 show.) The other few times I was able to use 10C tickets, I was in row 2 (Calgary - very few members there, gave me hope that I was close to living a dream I've had since I was 11), and rows 10 and 12 at The Gorge.
I did hear a rumour that the lottery is only for those with numbers higher than 200,000, which, *if* true, puts a lot of people out of 1st row contention entirely - so I really hope it is false. If not, I'll never see the front and will likely get no better than the 7th or 8th. (Calgary was a one-time deal ... I don't foresee myself being able to travel to a less-populated city with 10C seating - not that PJ plays them much anymore anyway.) 7th and 8th are great rows, don't get me wrong - if only I were a little taller. I think my number is too low to be placed in the bottom halves of the first 2 sections on the lower deck, which is, ironically, unfortunate.
I suppose the next time I can see them, I'll try out the 10C to see where I end up, and decide if it's worth my while to continue to bother (to attempt to) ordering tickets through them again, barring any changes to this format. Oh, and before any of you decide to spout the lame "see you, better seats for me" cliche, I should mention that I wouldn't relinquish my number.
Naturally, I'm happy that many people who joined late are able to get a chance at the 1st row (and the 2nd, 9th, and 10th), but I think better compromises can be made. Hopefully we'll see some growth in this lottery system that doesn't essentially revoke some of the seniority privileges from others while still allowing an expansion of said privileges to include the newer members.

Dude, 9, 10, 11, & 12th rows to the stage is fucking killer and no reason to have to be any closer. Let the fascination go about the first row.
My gawd too many people specualte about what they think things mean, or someone said it so now it's true. From the Ten Club: "Ten Club tickets are for reserved seating and allocated by membership seniority, with the exception of rows 1-2 and rows 9-10 which will be used for random allocation." Enough said.

exactly. thank you.
why do so few seemingly believe that random means just that = RANDOM?! :?
every 10c ticket holder at each show has an EQUAL chance...go with it people!
and as far as 'assuming' what people have enjoyed...haven't really, i know everyone's situation is different. that said, saying "9th row is a nice place to start"...i know many people who would think that was a killer place, period. it's all perspective. i personally think it's all awesome, for everyone.

um...it's been CLEARLY stated that the system is RANDOM. each and every 10c member in attendance has an EQUAL chance at winning the first two rows. it really IS that simple. so you DO have the EXACT SAME chance of winning as anyone else. doesn't matter how low your # is, you most definitely still could win. so hate to break it to ya, but you're IN. so just b/c you may have a sub 100xxx # doesn't mean anything beyond the fact that whether you win the lottery or not, you're always pretty close...so win-win no matter what!
well given that my spacing and my posts go hand in hand...figured you'd be paying attention. but i get it. typical. looking at the superficials, not paying attention to the content. gotcha.
SInce 2000, I have typically been 15-20 rows back on mikes side. ONce in a while, up on the side, which is fine.
With the lottery, I won the VA Beach row 1. Greatest concert date of my life. NEVER thought I would EVER get to do that.
Even if I never ever win another lottery, I hope they continue it so new people can continue to have that experience.
And with my number, I would be elated if I was guaranteed row 3 or 4 for the rest of my life.
great story vedd! that's what it's ALL about glad you had that experience!
idk about anyone else, but the idea of winning the lottery, actually getting an assigned space for the first row, especially front and center....just too cool! it's awesome to get the front row rail at a Ga show, but i kinda feel like you *earn* that by queueing all day...but winning the lottery...yea...you WON! and you get a wee bit of your own space to boot!
and yes, i do agree. while i understand, iof you are accustomned to *always* get row 1 and now you get row 3....i am sure it does feel a wee bit different. however, that holds true for anything. however, it's not like you just got pushed to the back of the bus...you're in row THREE! as i've said earlier, excellent problem to have! ENJOY!
ahhhhhh...i knew it wouldn't be here tonight, but i couldn't resist checkin in, what-if...for that 10.31 announcement....here's to hoping!
This board is full of arrogant douchebags. Can't any of you respond in a manner that isn't filled with insufferable, holier-than-thou, pompous snark?
I'm certainly not upset that I started in 9th row (after 11 years of paying my dues and otherwise having seats mostly behind the stage and at the opposite end of the arena in the upper deck), it was great though I couldn't see very much. I have a "happy to be in the building" attitude; I just saw one of my favourite bands from the 5th last row in a theatre, and will be seeing U2 from the very last row in a 50,000+ seat stadium with extremely shitty acoustics.
Seems as if you're trying to paint me as ungrateful, and if that strokes your ego & makes you feel awesome about yourself, then have at it.
I had a better chance at getting front row through seniority over the next few tours than I will with the lottery in place. That is a fact.

I feel as if the lottery is a decent compromise. I'd rather give up a few rows as opposed to the entire ticketing scheme being determined via lottery.

every 10c ticket holder at each show has an EQUAL chance...go with it people!
and as far as 'assuming' what people have enjoyed...haven't really, i know everyone's situation is different. that said, saying "9th row is a nice place to start"...i know many people who would think that was a killer place, period. it's all perspective. i personally think it's all awesome, for everyone.

you make quite the assumption of how much time i spend on this site. and you seem to be around pretty much when i am...but whateva.
bring it!
if you can't figure out what would be useful, i ain't gonna draw you a map amigo. it's a learning curve...;)

um...it's been CLEARLY stated that the system is RANDOM. each and every 10c member in attendance has an EQUAL chance at winning the first two rows. it really IS that simple. so you DO have the EXACT SAME chance of winning as anyone else. doesn't matter how low your # is, you most definitely still could win. so hate to break it to ya, but you're IN.
well given that my spacing and my posts go hand in hand...figured you'd be paying attention. but i get it. typical. looking at the superficials, not paying attention to the content. gotcha.
and this:
great story vedd! that's what it's ALL about glad you had that experience!
idk about anyone else, but the idea of winning the lottery, actually getting an assigned space for the first row, especially front and center....just too cool! it's awesome to get the front row rail at a Ga show, but i kinda feel like you *earn* that by queueing all day...but winning the lottery...yea...you WON! and you get a wee bit of your own space to boot!
and yes, i do agree. while i understand, iof you are accustomned to *always* get row 1 and now you get row 3....i am sure it does feel a wee bit different. however, that holds true for anything. however, it's not like you just got pushed to the back of the bus...you're in row THREE! as i've said earlier, excellent problem to have!
ahhhhhh...i knew it wouldn't be here tonight, but i couldn't resist checkin in, what-if...for that 10.31 announcement....here's to hoping!
