they're not bumped forever....they have the same, equal chance of winning the 1st or 2nd row lottery as any other 10c member in attendance. and i mean, honestly, you are being bumped to the 3rd or 4th row if normally you're in the 1st and 2nd?

as i said earlier, we ALL are pushed back, either 2 or 4 rows, to make up for the lottery seats....and i am happy that it seems MOST think it's a worthy compromise. i for one am happy to read it be in effect for ALL future shows, and i hope they stick to it. makes it awesome for anyone who thought they'd NEVEr get the chance. now obviously, many, many people will never win....but at least there's a chance. i think it's utterly cool.

and another btw - caught this on the thread about the special show in the UK:

a computer-generated random selection process will choose the winning ticket orders

i am going to guess that's the same utterly RANDOM system used to choose who wins the seats for rows 1, 2, 9 and 10.

Not at all. I actually prefer it. I was lucky enough to get front row to Philly '05, and by the middle of the show so many people had snuck down there that I no longer had a full spot at the rail.

You bring up a good point.
Maybe a better way of doing it is mixing the tickets that make up rows 1-10 and distributing the lottery winners in that set. It would mean that seniority still counts and the lottery seats are randomly drawn from those seats.
But, the logistics would be much more work for our Ten/VHC workers and not worth the results. Maybe rows 2, 4, 6, 8 instead of 1, 2, 9, 10?

Row 3 is fantastic! Row 1 is a little better :)

As I said I'm all for spreading it around. I agree that the same people, myself included, do not need to be up front every single show. But in keeping with the seniority system that the 10C is based on I think some seniority shows should be maintained. Let me be clear -- I think the 10C rocks and getting bumped 2 rows is a very, very small problem to have. I don't lose any sleep over this.

How many sub-100xxx people have won the lottery? I have seen none at touringfans and everyone I have asked at shows has been over 100xxx.

i've never won the lottery but have friends who have... its so much fun trying to spot them up front... then getting mad at them for their luck (with good intent of course!) but hearing about their experiences after! :D

  • I love, love, love the lottery.

My seatmate won front row almost dead center at MSG1. It was amazing. It was fabulous having so many other people around us equally excited and relishing the experience.

Congrats to all of the future winners of this awesome system.

They hold lotteries when they do not have enough tickets to go around so they have people put in for tickets, then are notified at a later date if they really did get tickets.

Then they hold a lottery for rows 1-2 and 9-10 for random allocations. But those who bought tickets knoew they bought tickets right away.

Then on some lotteries all seating is a crap shoot up for lottery with no seniority seating at all.

Which lottery is this thread talking about?????

Hahaha...it's really funny to see people say "I love the lottery system"....

Then go on to say that they won or their friends won and sat front row. No kidding you love it! ;)

I do think it is a very nice compromise (or compliment) to the seniority system.

SInce 2000, I have typically been 15-20 rows back on mikes side. ONce in a while, up on the side, which is fine.

With the lottery, I won the VA Beach row 1. Greatest concert date of my life. NEVER thought I would EVER get to do that.

Even if I never ever win another lottery, I hope they continue it so new people can continue to have that experience.

And with my number, I would be elated if I was guaranteed row 3 or 4 for the rest of my life.

oh i understand....but think of the flipside, that younger member with that really high 10c #....thinking, wow, i might actually get a chance! and then, oh no....X, Y and Z shows will not have the random seating lottery. i think that the long-time members have, deservedly so, enjoyed their full seniority seating from 2000 until the present. i think anyone with some serious seniority had a VERY good run of enjoying those seniorty seats, especially when you consider seniority was never even promised until the 2000 tour onwards, and yea...at most, spent $100 (and i am being generous in that estimation) more in membership fees than the rest of us with far sub-prime #s. so yea, i think it's more than fair to have the random lotter at EVERY show to spread the love around to EVERY 10c member, regardless of #.....at EVERY possible show one may have the pleasure of being in attendance.

and i don't actually keep track of such things :P.....but i thought a few have been mentioned. thing of it is, it's a fairly NEW system, was only used thus far for the few 2008 shows, yes? also, think how many - or few - sub 100xxx members there are, add in how many, on average, are in attendance at any given show, then factor in the total randomness of winning the lottery (esp. since you are referencing only people who would be eiigble for rows 1 & 2, not rows 9 & 10)......so yea.....all of that seems to point to more 100xxx+ members being 'winners'.....simply b/c there's probably a whole LOT more of em at any given show.

i know a few people thought perhaps hometown or homestate people 'might've' gotten preferential treatment in the lottery b/c it seemed to some that many hometowners did indeed win the lottery. again, just thinking senibly, at any given show.....wouldn't you imagine that the majority of fans in attendance ARE from the area/state? sure, a great # are not.....but the majority probably are. thus, again, why it would 'seem' they win more....but in actuality, and in accordance with the 'randomness' it is not. MSG 2008, those rows were like the united nations. i am sure some NYers won too, but just about everyone i know who won the first 2 rows anyway, were foreigners.....and me, a NYer, won row 10 in mansfield MA. and so it goes, fittingly, with the random selection process.

anyhoo...yea..i hear ya......but i still hope they do the random lottery at every....single.....show. well except perhaps for those uber special/small shows, which may have other limits, or entirely different seating, GA, whatever else........

and sure you're on the right board...i'm just old. ;)

I think my experience going to Massey Hall with someone's extra, and now going to Chicago with two different peoples' extras, I've learned that between the lottery and this community, it really is not such a difficult task to go see Pearl Jam from close up, so long as you don't mind going solo! Kudos to Pearl Jam and the Ten Club for figuring out such a wonderful system.

For sound quality, and really great view points, I think row 5 and 6 are the BEST rows by far. Row 1 does not have the appeal to me that it has to most of you. Not that I would complain in the least if i got row 1 - i am just saying that from experience, the sound is better a few rows back.

hey, i don't need, or really even desire :? ed's sweat, hahaha.....but it would be UBER cool to be front and center, once. i've had the pleasure of being on the rail in dusseldorf *right* in front of mike and jeff (only sho, ever, i got any picks b/c i am not gonna scramble for shit, haha....and i got one from BOTH of em, pretty cool).....and i was row 3 in edmonton on a friend's #, close to stone.....so yea.....i'd like my ed time.

seriously tho...whatever....i just love the IDEA of it. i am uber HAPPY just scoring 10c tix! even with my mediocre #! ;) i ALWAYS have a GREAT time!

I've got a pretty low number and have been fortunate enough to sit in the front a handful of time over the years... I like the idea of everyone getting a chance to get closer, but wish it was more of a random selection of seats in rows 1-10. When people get all "you've had your chance, now just move back and be happy" it kind of ticks me off! It's kind of like the people who were stuck between the drinking ages. It was 19 for a while, then when it changed to 21, people who had already been drinking legally had that taken away. It kind of feels like I've had something taken away, and when someone said something like "they will never get to sit in the front 2 rows again", a real sadness came over me. Don't get me wrong, I love the 10Club and everything they do for us, but is it wrong to have waited patiently over the years and worked my way up the food chain to earn the first 2 rows, only to have them taken away... forever? It just seems to me that there could be some sort of compromise, like the lottery seats being scattered in the front. Just my two cents... and I sincerely do wish you all luck in the lottery!

Thank you for posting that the way you did - too many people make statements without reason. While I agree that that scenario is unfortunate for you, there are other scenarios that I think are bigger than having a first row seat taken away from you (and switched to third row).. is it wrong that I didn't sign up for the Ten Club when I was three years old (1993)? Is it wrong that someone perhaps didn't even know about the Ten Club in 1996?

I love the lottery...so glad it is here to stay. It is a good way to give everyone an equal chance at landing a good seat. Hopefully they rotate it though so the same people don't hit it all the time. It would be nice if eventually they could give everyone at least once one of those seats if that is possible.

it's fair to say the front row is out of reach in terms of seniority, and that's fine since the band wishes it and it's ultimately their call. speaking as someone that's been more than fortunate to sit front row 3 times, i obviously have experienced the front row more than enough or even more than most deserve to (in front of Stone, in front of Mike, in front of Ed) and don't need to get back there any time soon.

in all honesty, i'm glad the lottery will never apply to me. as selfish as that sounds, i much prefer it that way,...

whatdaya mean, it'll never apply to you? are you not a 10c member? or do plan on never seeing pj live again? ;) seriously. i don't get it. the lottery will apply to EVERYone, every 10c member, in attendance at any show. and coolness for you for getting front row 3x, and once in front of everyone - nice! since you evidently read my every post  ...i assume you've seen....i'm just awaiting my "ed time" to hit that trifecta. would be cool to do so via the lottery, but if not.....i hope someday i can manage it at a GA show. tho, honestly, i just keep getting older....and there are so many younger/faster 10clubbers....and/or those with 'friends' who hold them spots.....so yea....i might have a better shot with the lottery.

bottomline, you are correct. obviously it's what the band wants. it personally makes me happy that the band wants it, for all the reasons i've already shared. none of us we're ever promised anything beyond 'a chance at tickets'.....so anything else we get is pure icing!

*edit - duh! you're posting on this board, so of COURSe you're a 10c member! so yea..i just don't know what you mean........ :?

as i was informed by 10C when i called them for clarification, and i quote: "the release indicating no lottery would be in place for the Toronto and Chicago concerts should have been ignored. the lottery system has been in place since the '08 tour and will remain in place indefinitely, which is reflected in the ticketing policy posted on the 10C site."

    and there you have it,...

    ;)

    how rare. ;)
    just kidding!
