this is from another thread...but i think it's pretty fantastic news deserving of it's own thread...

A few of us sent emails to 10C, one of us even called.. in any case, we have numerous confirmations that this will be on at the Toronto/Chicago shows, as well as that the lottery will be the norm from here on in.

THAT is FANTASTIC news!
i think it's win-win for everyone!
seeing who won, chatting with people who've never been that close before, just the general excitement each time it happens...whether to you, to someone you know, to someone you just run into....it is absolutely BRILLIANT. every single story i have heard or read about here....just so GREAT, and made me really HAPPY to know. i think pj/10c really hit a great balance with this whole lottery idea still mixed with straight-up seniority.

That is a good thing. Weird for rows 9-10 but certainly makes sense for rows 1-2.

i have no complaints, but that's also because my number is fairly average (207xxx). i can understand if osme of the veterans have gripes, but c'mon guys, you've been sitting in the first few rows for so long, are you really that pissed to be bumped back a couple of rows?

I like the idea a lot, except for the rows 9-10. What if you have a great number that might have put you in row 4 or 5 but you "win the lottery" and get stuck in row 10?

Doesn't happen! If your number would get you a pair in the fourth row, they leave you out of the rows 9-10 lottery.

Alright then! Then I LOVE the idea!

A friend of mine could have had first row at a show last year (he was in 3rd row) but said seeing people's reactions when they got to their seats in rows 1-2 was worth it and no big deal.

    Re: Lottery.

Im curious how "random" it is. Like do they just say ok hand me 50 pairs and put them in rows 1-2 & 9-10 or is it more thought out.

Like Ok this guy won the lottery for MSG 08 so hes out this girl won for hartford shes out or

lets put 5 pairs from 400XXX in 5 pairs from 300XXX etc.

Interesting stuff and I like the idea and I have a fairly low #. Adds some excitement to the first two rows.

My guess is it's totally random each and every time. Ten Club is certainly not going to have a check list of who sat where on hand.

that's smart of 10c but also provides a lot of work...i mean that implies that they have to lay it out twice (once to see who's eligible based on where they would be sitting w/o lottery rows and then again to figure out where those who didn't win the lottery would sit) it also implies that they have to do 2 lotteries (one for 1 and 2 and another for 9 and 10)

i think that rows 1-5 should all be lottery...this way everyone is eligible so they don't have to figure that out...and also all they have to do is move people up a seat for every person who wins the lottery...it would be like row 1 really starts at row 6 and for everyone who wins the lottery they take them out and put them in row 1-5 and then then move everyone down a seat to fill in the missing holes

I think it's time for them to get over it. If they've been in that long they've sat front row before, probably PLENTY of times. Plus this is a small, small fraction of the members. What is that, 50 people at each show or something? Plus there's still a chance they COULD get front row! 3rd row is almost the same...3rd row would be like hitting the lottery! I've sat front row twice (with friend's tickets, although mine is pretty low) and 4th-6 row a few times in '03... They were all really close and really great. Anywhere in row 1-10 is pretty much outstanding.

That is a good thing. Weird for rows 9-10 but certainly makes sense for rows 1-2.

    why weird?
just 2 more extra rows for ANyone to score - and not interefere with those with uber seniority *too* much. i think it's an AWESOME balance. and i say this as someone who won 10th row center at mansfield last year. would i have preferred winning forst or second row? of course. however, those were won by others, and w/o the added 9/10 rows, i would've been SOL and in my usual seats.....and it was utterly KICK-ASS being 10th row center. yea, i've been a lot closer at other times, even with seniority seating - thanks to friends - but the SUTPRISE factor is just AWESOME! i think the "what-if" factor of the whole thing adds just another level of anticipation for every show you attend, and as i said in the OP....seeing the smiles and awes.....hearing/reading the stories.....always FANTASTIC.

    and yea....
Seniority doesn't mean shit unless you get lucky and actually score tickets ...glad for people who will hit the lottery for the shows ...

    this is true too.
and so it goes......even scoring 10c tix makes ya lucky!
    :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

and yes....it is random, random, random.....no home-town preferential treatment, no one will 'win' row 9 or 10 if they should be forward of it....and yea, some truly lucky people have won more than once! and so it goes with RANDOM. i for one utterly LOVE it!

Have you ever actually heard them complaining? When the lottery was announced last tour, I remember the "seniors" saying it was cool by at least a 10 to 1 margin.

It pushed me back a little, but like someone said up thread, it's so cool to see others share in the front rows.

Weird because 9-10 seems so random. Anyhow, so, you've had close seats before and then won the lottery to get close? Way to screw other people out of good seats. ;)

agreed. when first introduced i think there may've been some complaints, but overall....most seemed for it, and AFTER seeing some shows with the lottery system in place, just about EVERYone i spoke to thought it was GREAT, low and high #s alike.

btw - it pushes us ALL back....either 2 or 4 rows, depending where your # would usually land ya (unless of course you actually WIN)...but again, i don't think 2 or 4 rows is that big a deal....and soooo worth it to see all the excitement, and for so many to have the opportunity!

I heard several folks at MSG 2 talking after picking up their tickets that were saying they had won the lottery 2 nights in a row ... so, I'm guessing ,completely random every night.

i've had close b/c i WORKED for em...ALL day on 10c queues in europe, and then sure.....some shows in canada with another 10clubbers #, got some cool seats. i've got a fairly mediocre 10c #, but i've seen some AMAZING shows thanks to it, so no complaints!

and just for the record, outside of GA and getting on the rail...i've NEVER been in the first 2 rows of a seated gig.....and i have NEVER been front and center in front of ed! so yea, that 10th row center was damn cool....but imagine that in front row?!   OMG....just once...that would be an utterly awesome experience and lifetime memory!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

    ...
Yes... I do. The people with the seniority are not the ones complaining... it's the people with less seniority making all the noise. Seriously, if you were given the front row for as many shows as you could afford... would you turn them down... or accept them? It was the people behind them that did all of the complaining... including the lamest complaint of all time... that they weren't 'going apeshit' like a kook.
Personally, i think it's a great compromise. The basics of the seniority system are still in play, but there is the random factor the lottery added.
    ...
Still... you know there will still be some complaints... some with low numbers complaining about being moved back a row or two and some complaining about not enough seats in the lottery. But you know what? there comes a time when you just have to say, "Fuck 'em." This system is a good one and it should be the norm. The ones who complain about it... "Fuck 'em".

The word Lottery gets thrown around here a lot and used when talking about different things.

They hold lotteries when they do not have enough tickets to go around so they have people put in for tickets, then are notified at a later date if they really did get tickets.

Then they hold a lottery for rows 1-2 and 9-10 for random allocations. But those who bought tickets knoew they bought tickets right away.

Then on some lotteries all seating is a crap shoot up for lottery with no seniority seating at all.

Which lottery is this thread talking about?????
  • TuckerKattTuckerKatt Posts: 123
I think some lottery shows and some straight seniority shows would be a fair compromise. What % of shows "some" means is up for discussion. I don't think many of the senior people have a problem with sharing the love up front but to be bumped from the front forever does not seem right either.

but the 1,2,9,10 lottery is done so with seniority taking over for all remaining seats ... is moving back 2 or 4 rows that bad?
