honorable mention to Tony Luke's on Oregon Ave, which is right around the corner from the Spectrum. Don't got to Pat's or Geno's...they stink. It's like fast food
very important question indeed! Now another while we got the Philly experts here. Are there bars within walking distance? Taking public transportation so tailgating's out. Thanks in advance.

There are a few bars 1 in the Spectrum, 1 at the Bank and then the one in the Holiday Inn next to the stadiums.

you are missing out if you don't tailgate. mcfaddens is a bar at Citizen's Bank Park that is open year round. Chickies and Pete's is one of the country's largest sports bars (on packer ave). you can walk to the spectrum from there.
the parking lot is where all the action will be though

McFaddens is in walking distance. Its located at Citizens Bank Park which is a short walk from the Spectrum. It is usually a pretty good pre-game/pre-concert scene. Chickies and Petes is a cool sports bar which is further away. You could walk it if you are up for a nice hike. Most people tailgate in Philly though. The lots will be packed with people from 3PM and earlier.
As far a cheesesteaks, if you want the whole experience go to Geneo's or Pat's but keep in mind that they are not the best cheesesteaks around. I would go with Tony Lukes or Jim's. Tony Luke's is close to the stadiums and everything there is good.

And you don't need a car to tailgate. Just grab a 30 pack and tag along with another group. We are friendly in Philly unlike some may say. Just don't come wearing another teams gear and talking trash and you will be ok.

So I have to leave my Cowboys jersey at home right?
Kidding. Went there in 2006. And the tailgaters were very generous if you were short on something. Some guy last time was grilling out and made a hamburger for my wife and proceeded to tell us all about Camden.
cheese steaks are over rated... get a real fucking sandwich
beer too

all about camden huh? what was that like? my wife and i were at those shows too.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.
I went to Philly for a weekend a couple of years back. Had a blast. So much of a blast I can barely remember it! Looking forward to going again. I'll leave my NY Giants uniform at home though! I'm there for PJ and the liberty bell and cheesesteaks and drinking.
EDIT: and the Rocky Statue!
the only cheesesteak we had in '06 was at the show. terrible i know. the rest of the food we ate on that trip was great. had some amazing wings somewhere downtown. enjoyed the city and people were nicer than i had heard they would be...of course i hate the cowboys so that helps!

I completely agree with this one. I've done the taste test of all the big name ones. John's blows them all away. The one problem with John's is that they're only open weekdays during breakfast/lunch hours and there's no easy public transportation access to get there.
Here's a link to a taste test that the Philadelphia Inquirer food critic did a few years ago: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/food/50627582.html
This article put John's on the map. John's also won in a cheesesteak contest run by the sportstalk radio station here last year.
If John's is closed, Tony Luke's near Front and Oregon is pretty good and not far from the stadiums. Pat's and Geno's on Passyunk have the fame and neon lights, but they're only worth it if its late night and no other places are open. Jim's on South Street is another touristy one that has later hours.

I dont know of any bars I'd like to walk to but Chickies has amazing crab fries!
Advise: Just go hang out with someone! We are friendly here. Stay clear of any large younger crowds though, chances are cops will come, fights will happen, etc. and its annoying. Ive been to too many Philly/Camden shows that I can almost guarantee it. What can I say, Philly likes to party and get rowdy.

Couldn't agree more, Philly gets such a bad rap.
