back when Avocado was being promoted the PJ site changed it's layout to promote it, then recently the layout changed for the Ten re-release...so is the layout going to change again for Backspacer? or is this layout going to stick around because they had just recently changed it?

I'm venturing to bet it's going to stay the same... there might be a different theme you can change it to in your personal settings if you want though.

When the site was skinned with the Klausen art he had done for the 06 tour (The Buffalo's, The Big Wave, The Moon landscape, The Owl...etc) I really thought they took a step in the right direction to shed the cliche of "That Grunge Band" the art was nice, very colorful, every section all had a different color scheme/Image theme and the site was easy to navigate.

I was disappointed when I saw this new skin. The 9 different shades of dirty green and all the different fonts/images is not very appealing. In my opinion it's a pretty big step back.

Didn´t the layout change with the release of Live at the Gorge? It rings de bell, but I can´t tell. I didn´t use to log in this often.
  • from what i noticed the theme of the layout seems to coexist with the theme/s of what is being promoted. Riot Act had a similar theme to it's album, Avo had the klausen art (which kinda sorta suited it, it seemed to fit more of an into the wild theme if you ask me) and this layout seems to convey a retro-grunge theme which is definitely a feeling we all got with the re-release of ten, bringing us back to the old days where it all began (hence the retro graphics of stickers and posters and the ten re-release banner at the bottom of the home page) so should we expect maybe a type writer theme for Backspacer? or something Backspacer-esque?

Hi guys. I rarely post, but thought I could jump in here with some info because I worked on the last website build (the frontend part was outsourced to me). The build and launch were definitely timed to match the announce of the album and tour. I wasn't privy to much of anything from a site strategy perspective, goals, etc., but I think they re-did the site just because they knew they needed too...it was old.

Now obviously I didn't draw any of the design, but I am in the biz and a UI expert, and I can tell you that I thought the navigation was simple and easy to follow. Everything was intuitive. The multiple color schemes for each page was just a lot of CSS code, re-using the same HTML.

As far as the new build, I did not get to bid or be involved in the new project, but my guess is that it was probably more "functional" needs that drove it than design, maybe 70/30. I don't think the old design was stale in any way. The person who did this new build is top notch, and they have deployed an open source Content Management System called Drupal to do this. I am pretty sure the old website had an in house admin system set-up. Using the CMS allows them to integrate the forums into the core website, and potentailly bring the storefront onto it as well (may be done already), getting them one platform for everything on the web they want to do. They are running on a widely supported CMS platform (which keeps them from getting tied up into custom code). It all makes sense from a business perspective.

Again, I'm not an "informed insider", but I do have some good info to justify my suspicions above. And I happen to love the new site. I wouldn't expect a new design anytime soon on the site though. I think they were coincidences timing wise.
So I got that goin for me now....which is nice!

    Huh. Interesting.
Wonder if ‘they’re’ thinking of vamping up the 10c ticket buying process at all?
